Gary,
I know there's a group that wants to do a fingerlakes winery weekend but I need some direction.

When do the campgrounds close in that area?  Late or mid October?

Are there local wineries that group together for $30 you can visit 6-8 wineries and sample and have live music?
We have about 8-10 wineries that get together for a spring and fall weekend. http://www.bvwinetrail.com/

I'm like to map the wineries and add campgrounds within to pick our place.

Peter and I do the Seneca Lake (Watkins Glen) area wineries quite regularly. On that side of the lake, there are 18 wineries.

Tastings on most of them are very reasonable, $4-$6 for 5 or 6 wines.

Our personal favorite is Leidenfrost. There is even a distillery.

There is also Watkins Glen State park as well, but take note only one loop has hydro and it fills up fast..  Also on the highway north from Corning to Watkins there is a K.O.A ...

Also should be taken note...  On the approach to Watkins (from Corning) there is a steep hill with a 90 degree bend at the bottom (if you blow the red light you'll end up making a drive thru in the Pizza Hut) , think the signs states nothing over 2 tons allowed down the hill...  I know most do have a 2 ton trailer, but those with electric brakes will want to use a different road..   if you follow the signs for Watkins Glen raceway and move over one road to the West (this road also runs right past WG State park) you'll have less of a grade (still makes a 90 at the bottom of the hill.)

Joe, as I told you at Francis Slocum, we have stayed at Camp Bell Campground and it is inexpensive and has nice facilities. They do have a loop that could work for the group with a pavillion I think. There are a lot of seasonals, but they are well kept. They also have discount tickets for Corning Glass Museum. We went up at the end of August a couple years ago and the weather was perfect, with 70's during the day and 50's at night. The row with site 23-31 are slightly shaded and have cabins in that row. Sites 65-91 are in an open field. All the others are seasonals the last time we were there.
We had looked at the KOA, but expensive so opted to go elsewhere.
Also, Watkins Glen International offers 3 laps for $25 in your own vehicle. We did it in our van and the girls loved riding around a real race track. You follow the pace car around and they stop on the front stretch so you can take pictures. Definitely worth it if you are a race fan.
Also, make sure you do the gorge trail at Watkins Glen State Park, definitely worth it.

Best Regards,
Norm
My 2 cents, but probably worth one.

I was thinking more along the lines of Keuka Lake. The have a Wine Passport which is good at 7or8  wineries around the lake. Cost ia $12 plus tax 8%. Heron Hills has live music most weekends.  Gary

I've updated the map to include Keuka Lake wineries.

chiefbowes, can you PM me or post a link to the wine passport?

acenorm, I do remember talking about the winery tour but get a little confused with 10 rallies going on.  Thanks for the reminder.  I'm checking out the campground now to reviews, dates and groups.  Looks like it's only 25min from the start of the wineries.

I'll keep watching this one. We enjoyed touring Seneca Lake  several yrs ago & would be interested in trying other wineries this time. It's such a lovely area.

I had a lengthy conversation with the owner of Camp Bell Campground last evening. Wow, these guys have their act together.

Once we figure what our plans, they will work with me for some options which can include a shuttle bus to the wineries and/or several local museums.

The Corning Museum of Glass: The Corning Museum of Glass allows you to explore, experience and interact with glass. Explore the world's finest collection of historical and art glass which includes more than 45,000 pieces and represent over 3,500 years of glass making history.

There is also options to make your own glass.

Watkins Glen State Park: Watkins Glen State Park is the crown jewel of the Finger Lakes State Parks. Within two miles of its start, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls all along its course.

Tanglewood Nature Center & Museum: Explore 9 miles of scenic trails in the Finger Lakes area.

Rockwell Museum of Western Art: The Museum boasts the finest American Western and Native American art collection this side of the Mississippi.

Seneca Park Zoo: Seneca Park Zoo offers a public exhibition of animals in naturalistic environments.

The National Soaring Museum: The National Soaring Museum is an aviation museum striving to preserve the history of motorless flight.

Watkins Glen International: Watkins Glen International (aka "The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York at the southern tip at Seneca Lake.

Seabreeze Amusement Park: Experience the fun and excitement of more than 70 great attractions at Seabreeze with your family.

Glad to hear, they were good to us when we were there. They are originally from PA, I believe, outside Philly somewhere.
