47th Annual Apple Harvest Festival
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:21:38 PM »
I have heard too many good things about the Annual Apple Festival in PA. I tried to make it there the last two years but something always comes up. I am planning on making it this year. Anyone recommends a campground ?  Any suggestions for what to look at the festival and besides eating apples, what else to do at the festival for kids and DW?
see ya' out there !

The Apple Harvest is fun but very busy.  http://www.appleharvest.com/

I have camped in most of the campgrounds in Gettysburg.  My favorite (I planned a group rally there last May) is Gettysburg Campground.
Very nice campground, 3 or 4 miles from downtown. Sites aren't big but 212, 227 and 228 are very nice.  They backup to the water and 212 has a little water fall.  Last year there was a family of owls in the trees all weekend.  http://gettysburgcampground.com/

Drummer Boy is nice but has always gotten bad reviews because the highway is so close and you can hear it. http://www.drummerboycampresort.com/

Artillery CG is a great experience if you are there for the battlefield.  They have a horse stable onsite and offer tours through the battlefield on horseback.  I think the kids need to be 12 or older.  http://www.artilleryridge.com/

Thank you Joe.
I been told it can get very busy, and some people say there are not enough apples to go around although it is an Apple Festival ???

If you prefer state parks over private campgrounds, Pine Grove Furnace State Park is less than 10 miles from the Apple Harvest Festival and has a very nice (although a little small) campground. The shower house and rest room buildings are just a few years old and are very clean.

We always book sites at Pine Grove Furnace for the first weekend of the festival and usually get one or two of DW's brothers to join us.
