2017 Memories / Re: Grand Canyon of PA Group Rally
« on: July 24, 2017, 12:04:11 PM »
I'm located in NEPA with loads of bears, ticks, bobcats and fishers.   The 11 year old is scared of them all.   We have been busy getting ready for archery season and have many bear on camera, and have been pounced on by a bobcat.   Just a short 18 miles from Promised land is our honey hole for hunting. I only wanted to know if we needed to pack a ton of food, drive 3 hours, and then an hour to Wally.  Yes, its a ride to one if your at Promised Land (options are drive to Mt Pocono, East Stroudsburg, or Hawley.

Hi my August kid shuffling has been straightened out.   Ill have my girlfriend and her never camping before 11 year old daughter that is scared of ticks and bears for this adventure.   Canoe is going, and Ill probably bring the child's bike.   For pot luck foods are we going to formalize the menus for Thurs to Sunday or just plan a big meal for Saturday night?   It appears to fairly remote up there and no Wally World on every corner lol.

Pop-Up Campers / Re: New PUP camper with lots of questions
« on: July 19, 2017, 01:11:27 PM »
Hi welcome to the world of popup campers.  Some are easy and others make you scratch your head.    The gray drains and black water from pups is different than conventional wisdom in Travel Trailers on up.  The pottie should have either a tank or Cassette Tank.  The Cassette Tank comes out of the side of the camper and is the same area where you add fresh water to the toilet system.    Showers and kitchen sinks are even more of  PITA BUTT.  Normally they are located far from each other on opposing sides of the pup.   Shower drains contain "black water" but is called gray water just like kitchen sink water that may have "black water" mixed in from hand washing or washing infants in the sink.   The dual drains need to routed to a single drain and usually a 15 to 25 gallon portable tank is needed.

Easy pups: have kitchen gray, water no inside shower, and thetford portable potties or even a bucket to do the deed either in the pup or outside in tent.   Depending on where you camping you can use the outside shower easily with a shower tent.   In NO showering allowed areas it requires a way to capture the nasty "black water" from the shower pan.   In my many years of camping in all types of campers I recommend using the endless hot water of a facility's comfort station and use the "roughing it" methods off grid only.

Nice work....I'm going to do something like that on my jayco.   It has outlets at both beds but  no USB or 12 volt.   10 year old Jayco Jay Series 1206.   Last year spent a fortune in upgrading beds, pugz, and bathroom.   This year 12 volt everywhere!

Hi Joe,
I put shower rod shelving over my sink area.   I put mounts up into the roof and has not fallen down.   I had shelves over the other over cabinet.   KIDS came into camper grabbed the shower rod and entire loaded shelving x2 fell onto my girlfriend.   That side shelving went to the dumpster.   I put cabelas folding cabinet onto the cabinet and get storage plus an upper counter space.

Hi Joe,   Over the winter snow slid off my barn and hit a travel trailer and my pup.   The pup's bag awning took a beating.   I used a Super Stitcher with canvas treated string.   So far it held up for this season.  Ill try the spiderwire next.

I carry my canoe on top of my k2500 suburban using Thule racks, canoe load bar ends, and use a oak orchard canoe and kayak roller.

My first canoe was just above big box sellable, poly construction, and 80 pounds: Old Town Guide 147.   It was fine for lakes but a bear to paddle: 38" beam and flat bottom aka barge.

My next canoe was royalex and has wood gunnels: 16 foot Bell Chestnut Prospector RX.
The latter was leaps and bounds an improvement from the barge.

I was on 116 with my 1206 Jayco SHW gizmos, and Sirius boombox.

At&t worked fine in camper but not outside.  My truck's 7 pin plug went south and we showed up at 11 pm on Friday.  Backed her in with the help from my girlfriend.   We took it easy all weekend.  Next week its lake Wallenpaupack Friday to Wednesday 2017 Boats and Brats Fest.
.   I got home at 4 and spent 3 hours prepping and packing up my boat.  Pup fridge on, portapottie not  dumped and almost forgot my Thule ratchet rope thingies.   All in all good time.   Slept till 11 am today and left at 3 pm.

Going to fix the 7 pin and more prepping for next trip.

Electric / Re: Venting batteries mounted inside the PUP

Hi did you buy lead acid or agm? Lead acid you will need to vent with box, tube, vent or big door.

AGM battery does not need vents and can be charged on your sofa.

Very happy that you understand weight limitless and tongue weights.

Has anyone thought about running the Delaware River that weekend.   The pocono pony buses run Saturdays and Sunday.   7am bus ride.   12pm take out at Smithfield or even later.    I usually reserve the final trip day overnight to not get pressured during packing up

This weekend in June I have my young girls and would not run the river with them.     12vt boat on flat water lol.

Hi I reserved site 17.  Thursday to Sunday.  Late arrival on Thursday Night.    Popup camper and a canoe.   I plan on fishing and recon the area for hunting.  Might bring my kids or  them up for that recon style trip.

Hi anyone interested in Trout season opener weekend at Promised Land lower lake or remote Boondocking Delaware State Forest near stocked stream?   I'm kicking around either boat fish Promised Land or boon and put on the waiters for pine flats creek.   Trout fishing is a rite of spring in the Poconos.

I'm game for Friday rafting.  Lehigh river.  Not the Delaware.   Bought another canoe. Bell Chestnut Prospector 16ft in royalex.   Hickory run is a better raft and canoe trip.    Pocono pony from monroe county transit runs the free shuttle (sat or Sunday)  for Delaware river canoe/kayak/tube/whatever.  Park at park and ride, load county trailer, climb onto bus, 4 hour paddle.   Back to park and ride cruise 40 mins back to Promised Land.
