General Campfire Discussion / Kicked out of the pool
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:52:12 AM »
I need your opinion, I was staying a few days at a campground with my daughter and her friend.  The day we were scheduled to leave, we woke up, had breakfast, packed the camper and moved the camper off the site so it was available for another person.  We had a few hours to kill so we went for a swim in the pool.  There was a few others swimming and no life guard.

At 2pm (check out time) an employee from the office came out and told us that it was check-out time and we had to either leave the pool or pay $4 per hour, person to use the pool.

After spending several days there spending money left and right with paying for the site, ate at the restaurant, paid for mini golf, bought ice cream and more, I thought it was a lame thing to do.  Your thoughts?

What's Cookin / Instant Pot

Sometimes while camping, I'm looking easy cooking.  Has anyone ever used an instant pot?  I new style pressure cooker... I think.

General Campfire Discussion / Worse SPUT Ever
« on: March 05, 2017, 07:56:59 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has done it but today I closed up everything in the camper and when I went to hook up the truck.... NO KEYS.  Checked my clothes and everything in the tow vehicle.  I raised the roof half way... didn't find them.  :anono1: Raised the roof the remaining way... nothing.  :sotired: Pulled out one bunk end and then the slide out... still nothing.  :-[

I found them, not in the camper or the tow vehicle... but I found them.  :banghead:

What's Cookin / Jackpot - Ice Maker
« on: February 28, 2017, 07:22:57 PM »
Scored a new Igloo ICE109 Compact Ice maker for $25

Don't know that we will bring it every weekend but definitely on longer weekends.

Does anyone else use one?  Would you recommend it?

Appliances / Heat Strip Install
« on: February 22, 2017, 10:54:05 PM »
After a lot of research, I installed a heat strip in my A/C unit.  It gives me additional free heat at the campsite, better circulation, and hides the exterior noise when the kids are sleeping.  It does not replace the furnace or other heating source but provides 5600 BTU, usually a separate circuit so eliminates breakers tripping.

The coleman/RVP air conditioning units have new knobs with the unit and thermostat control.  The DuoTherm/Dometic units do not have thermostat control and is not recommended to be run for more than 4 hours at a time.

FYI - it costs about $45 and can be installed is 2 screws and one plug.

Worth the money

Kids, Pets & Relatives / K9 Seat Belt
« on: February 22, 2017, 09:30:59 PM »
We have 2 dogs that travel with us everywhere.  They love the car and the first thing they do is jump in the front/drivers seat.

We just purchased two Paw Prime dog seat belts, a pet restraint device designed to help protect you and your pet while traveling in an automobile.  Simply clip onto your pet harness or collar and snap the belt tab right into the seat belt receptacle of your vehicle, securing your pet into place. With an adjustable length, the Paw Prime Seatbelt accommodates dogs both small and large of up to 100 Lbs.

    • Where: We camp in the family grandstand RV section outside of the track on turn 3.  This keeps us close to everything but not in the middle of it all night.  I'm to old and like to sleep.
    • How Much: 4 nights and 5 days of camping for $150. ($125 for popups) Thursday thru Monday
    • Who: Both men and woman are welcome
    • Group Gathering: There are marked sites, first come first serve.  The first person who arrives in the group saves our sites by putting their camper in one, tow vehicle in another, chairs in a 3rd, etc
    • Amenities:

Electric - There are no utilities at the site.  A few of us run generators for a few hours during the day to charge our batteries for lights, etc at night.  Take showers in our campers etc.  If you don't have a generator, no worries.  You can borrow mine.
Bath house - There is a bath house with flush toilets and showers.  Showers are normally nice on Thursday and Friday if you go early.  Cold showers later.  The campground is packed on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.  Showers are always cold and busy.
Campfires are permitted, above ground.  One of us bring a fire pit.[/li][/list]
Water - a fresh water truck comes around a few times a day to fill your water tank as needed. Cost is $??
Grey/Black Tanks - HoneySucker comes around daily to empty tanks for a fee. Cost is $??
Ice - Ice truck comes around daily, about $5 per bag
    • Potluck: Everyone brings their own beverages and snacks.  Prior to the trip, we split up meals and eat most together.  There is a lot of food and we eat well.  Maybe not completely healthy but well. (OPTIONAL)
    • Activities: Typical day is big breakfast, playing bocco ball, corn-hole, ladder golf or other games, lunch, visit racetrack activities and drivers, watch individual track trials, watch truck rain on Saturday, big dinner, drink a few beverages around a campfire.
    • Sunday race day tickets are about $25-$30
    • Tour: Even though I don't gamble, we often visit Pocono Casino one evening for diner, slots or whatever. (OPTIONAL)
    • Camping includes access to the inside of the track via walking or shuttle bus.  There are live bands inside and outside of the racetrack nightly.
    • Pack a hat, sunglasses, suntan lotion, etc for race day
    • Personal coolers for water or other drinks including alcoholic beverages are welcome in the race.  There are restrictions in size and I think they need to be soft coolers.
