A few people have mentioned having a hamburger and hotdog social at this rally with sides and fixin' bar.  I'm open for any ideas.

I think we are going to do it as a summer 'picnic' like dinner.  It will be the potluck dinner.
I'd prefer not having 2 meals so everyone can enjoy the day and the local area/CG.

« Reply #34 on: June 21, 2011, 11:11:29 AM »
Hi everyone -

ATTENDEES:
mknott57: 4 adults
my toys: 1 adults
Guitarman: 2 adults
JoeCamper: 4 adults
CANTgetRIGHT: 6 adults
twstdpear: 2 adults/2 children
mtn_bikers: 2 adults

- - TOTAL: 23 people for dinner - -

Christine and I are organizing the pot luck dinner for the Rocky Gap Rally.  We are doing a hamburger/hot dog social.  It looks like we are having 7 family units for the weekend, so I've broken the menu into 9 items. We are estimating about 23 people for the dinner- so plan to bring enough for that many  8). Hopefully we won't end up with tons of left overs like we usually have  ;D

Below is the menu that we created - please sign up for an what ever item you'd like to bring. Everyone will also have to provide their own dishes, utensils, and beverages, so don't forget to pack those items  :).

Menu:
1. Hamburgers (Guitarman)
2. Hotdogs (My Toys)
3. Hotdog/hamburger rolls (coordinate w/people bringing the burgers & dogs to figure the number of rolls needed) - CANTget RIGHT
4. Corn on the Cob (butter, salt/pepper), lettuce, tomatoes, onion & cheese for the burgers, catsup, mustard, relish, pickles
 (mtn_bikers)
5. Baked Beans mknott57
6. Macaroni Salad and French Fries (maybe) (JoeCamper)
7. Dessert: bread pudding w/ caramel sauce twstdpear

For those of you going to this rally, Joe and I are in process of organizing a group bike ride on the C&O Canal Path on the Saturday of the weekend.

Our plan is to pedal out of a parking area near Old Town, MD which is about a 30 minute drive from the campground. I've found some information online, and it looks like the parking fee is about $5/vehicle.  We'd like to go about 10-12 miles east and go through the PawPaw WVA tunnel that is on the canal path, then have some lunch and head back to the parking lot. The total mileage on the ride can be as much or as little as everyone wants. The trip will be about 20 miles and take

Those of you that know us, know we spend a lot of time mountain biking - - no worries on this one, the trip is a nice semi-flat no rocks kind of trail.

Christine suggested I post up items that you should bring if you are thinking about doing this with us.  Here's the list I put together:
1. bike -  ;D
2. bike helmet
3. spare inner tube for you bike in case you get a flat - don't worry if you don't know how to change it, we do  :D
4. camping headlight or flashlight - the tunnel is really dark inside
5. plenty of water - we generally use our Camelbaks which hold 100 oz each, but 1-2 waterbottles would also work
6. backpack - to put the water and your lunch in
7. lunch - best items are the ones you don't have to keep cold: PB&J sandwiches, granola bars, apple slices, cookies, raisins, etc)
8. sunscreen/bug spray

If you are interested in doing this with us, either post it on the thread or shoot me a pm so I can get a basic head count.

Hope we get a nice group for this activity.

Just sent a PM to the Rally attendees asking for adult/child head count. It will be posted in the Rocky Gap State Park - Pot Luck Dinner thread.
