Towing / Re: How can I increase my towing capacity?
« on: May 25, 2017, 02:56:27 PM »

If you get pulled over and are towing 1,700 #'s and your Santa Fe is rated for 1,600 #'s they don't care that you put a larger motor, transmission, heavy duty suspension, etc.

Unfortunately my UK co-worker is out and therefore I won't be taking my trailer.  Can I bunk with someone for Saturday night?

My UK co-worker is going back to the UK for a long weekend to take care of stuff with his house and tenants.

The B. Fam and I got ice cream makers from our mom for Christmas.  I was thinking of bringing them and making some ice cream.

Hobbies & Activities / Good Ole' Mountain Dew...Scout Song
« on: May 17, 2017, 09:00:57 AM »
My son is a cub scout and part of scouting is singing.  A popular song is Mountain Dew.  It is a really catchy song with various verses.  What verses have you heard?

Yes I can google it but there are many made up unofficial verses that are more current with the times.

They call it that good Ole' Mountain Dew
And men that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you fill up my jug of that Good Ole' Mountain Dew

Not far from here there's an old holler tree
where you lay down a dollar or two....or three
You go round the bend and you come back again
There will be a jug of that Good Ole' Mountain Dew

My Uncle Mort is really short
He stands about four foot two...or three
He feels like a giant when you fill up his pint with some of that GOMD

Electric / Re: LED Change
« on: May 13, 2017, 08:19:23 AM »
Samebutdifferent forwarded me a pic of his LED -vs- regular lights.  When we camp together we'll try to remember to get a side by side comparison of his blue LED -vs- my cool white LED.

Electric / LED Change
« on: May 12, 2017, 07:19:24 PM »
I camp often enough without electric that I wanted to change my light fixtures from the traditional bulbs to LED's to conserve my battery power.  Samebutdifferent and Elmirafudd were showing off their new camper last weekend and they bought LED bulbs on amazon for cheap.  I liked them so I bought the same brand.  They bought the blue tinge ones and I bought the cool yellow lights.  I'd love to do a side by side comparison.  Maybe next time we're camping together we'll switch some bulbs.

I bought 20 for $22

Off Topic / Dented tailgate
« on: April 17, 2017, 02:02:12 PM »
I was getting a load of firewood the other day and I wound up denting the inside of my tailgate on my Toyota Tundra Pickup.  This dent pinched the levers that latched the tailgate closed.  It wouldn't close  :banghead:

Luckily it happened when I was offloading it so I didn't have to bungee it closed and drive.  I didn't know I had dented the tailgate at this time so I was just very puzzled about why it wouldn't latch.  I parked the truck and the next day I finally took a look at it.  As soon as I took the access panel off the tailgate I saw the issue.  A piece of wood dropped and dented the tailgate on the access hatch pinching the bars that work the latches.  I banged it out with a hammer but 2 things jumped in my head.

1- Will this happen again?  I use my truck like a truck.  I haul firewood, camping gear, gravel and other material, bricks, etc.  I don't baby it.  Should I put something on the tailgate?  Suggestions?

2- I bent steel and caused a problem.  What if I had one of those aluminum bed F150's?  I used to think a residential pickup driver could be fine with the aluminum bed and that it was the contractors that would flatten the aluminum bed like a beer can but apparently a homeowner can do some serious damage to the interior of a pickup bed.  Knowing I did this to steel, I personally would avoid an aluminum bed.

You buy the brakes and rotors and I'll let you use my tools and I'll tell you what to do.

Everyone else,
$5 gets you a lawn chair and 2 beers to watch from my TBD

I finally got around to looking at my brakes.  It went much smoother this time.  I think doing it on a Saturday afternoon -vs- a cold evening made it go a lot easier  :)  I went to the store looking for a 17mm socket to use with my breaking bar and I found this awesome set of Bolt extractor sockets for $25.  It grabs the bolt in the center of the flat part instead of the edges that would be rounded off.  All of the caliper bolts came right off with no problem.  Even the other wheel that I had not taken off the last time came right off  :jig:

So far my truck stops so I am happy with the new pads and rotors.

New and Pre-Purchase / Re: What to do with the PopUp when not in use?
« on: March 28, 2017, 09:08:09 AM »
When I had a popup....Once I got into the camping season I had it out every month.  In the off season I tried to open it every month to check on it.  I have had it open for weeks at a time when I was working on it or someone suggested to me that if it was wet when I left camp just set it up when I get home.  eventually the rain will stop and it will dry out and then I would close it after work.
