Watkins Glen, NY / Re: Watkins Glen State Park - June 2018

That sounds right. You can always reserve for a few days ahead of when you want to be there and after 15 days change the ressie to start on the actual day you want to arrive (If that's still allowed. Please check the rules for clarification).

Towing / Re: Truck with cap and a/c?
« on: July 31, 2017, 07:21:10 PM »
Butch/Jenn: I think I'd go the Suburban route too.

I don't think that truck had AC, my dear sister. But, at the time, neither did the house. We were just used to the heat better. Truck cap had windows too, so I think parents just opened the front windows and the air flowed through.

My parents did a truck cap and slider window for us kids.  It worked for Heat and air.  There was an inflatable thing that went in the opening.  I don't remember getting really hot or cold with that system and we had relatives 4 hours away that we went to see at all times of the year.

justchillin: yes, 2018. Reservations go quickly because there is only one electric loop in the park. I believe we want the sites from 76-99 if possible as they are the flat part of the loop (if memory is correct). The other side of the loop is hilly. And farther from the bathhouse/closer to the playground (noise from kids playing).

Another fun rally!! Tubing the Yellow Breeches, fighting off hungry, DEET-resistant mosquitos (and losing miserably), playing in the lake, and of course the wonderful food at potluck. Thanks to everyone that attended!

Certainly! WalMart may be closer (and cheaper, it's $12 for a bucket with two kinds of chicken and a side). Walmart only has rotisserie chicken (it's a small walmart). The grocery store right near it or KFC (in front of grocery) will have it. On Rt 83 at Yocumtown Exit. 10-15 minutes from camp ground.

Pennsylvania Grand Canyon / Re: Grand Canyon of PA Group Rally

Pathwacker: normally, we would have loads of kids at a rally. This one seems to be kid free for most of us, and much smaller. Normally, Saturday pot luck is the only semi-organized food that is done. This time we just need to bring ourselves and maybe a little cash to cover the cost of Saturday night dinner as ChefPete and Phil are cooking for all of us. They are tremendous hosts and love to cook and entertain.

Chiefbowes and I are not sure if we are bringing Kayaks or bikes, yet. Might go pretty minimal since it is a short trip and it's just the two of us this time.

Also a folding table.

Need a few more tables for potluck.

Canvas Classified / Hobie Mirage Oasis Tandem Kayak $1999
« on: July 19, 2017, 09:25:21 AM »
Dad has decided to sell the big kayak. It's only been used a few times. It has just about all the bells and whistles that were available for it.

Cool feature is you don't have to paddle once you are deep enough, you can pedal with your feet!

The details are in the Craigslist ad. Thanks for looking!

Welcome from Pennsylvania! I got a chuckle out of both of your posts. We've all been there and thought that. You just had the nerve to put it in type  ;D

You will eventually not the a noobie and be able to offer advice to others. Have fun and keep your sense of humor.

I don't think we will have the prep and cook time available since we are tubing on Saturday. I think we are doing meatballs so I can use the crock pot and not have to worry about timing so much.

Are you all registered as a team?  If you are, what is the name of the team?

Pass on Left

Here is the direct link to the Team's MS page.

If you are wanting to donate, please pick a rider that doesn't have their $300 yet. Better yet, check with Mike or Diane Baird (mbaird on this forum). I know their recent fundraiser is not on the web totals yet. Each rider has to have $300 to ride.

Also, some may be getting corporate sponsors from their employers but haven't gotten the funds yet so it's not logged either.

I think a majority of the team is NOT camping because of the exertion it takes for the ride. I didn't want you to be surprised that there aren't many actually camping for this event.

1.5 miles, 3.0 miles, and farther. See the facebook page for more details from people that float and kayak it all the time. https://www.facebook.com/FloatYellowBreeches/

I'm thinking 1.5 to start for me. I've never floated this area before. But I know lots of people that do. Important to carry out all trash, don't drive after drinking (PD and DCNR police the lots at the ends), and don't drink while on Messiah College property (or be obnoxious/disrespectful while on their property, which is start point parking lot).
