Campground etiquette
« on: July 20, 2017, 02:08:47 PM »
What importance is campground etiquette to you all? Does it weigh into your decision where to camp, or not?

I'm in the position of having to cancel last minute and try to rebook somewhere else for next weekend. Not easy this time of year. The park website sells itself as quite family oriented, but having just read TripAdvisor, Yelp and RVParkReviews ratings t sounds anything but. My wife picked out this park so I went with it and din not do my due diligence and check all reviews beforehand.

Am I putting too much importance on what a handful of campers wrote (even though they all wrote the same complaints - loud, rowdy, cussing, drinking, no security to enforce quiet times, tightly packed RV sites, very crowded peak times, etc etc).

Any positive or negative experience in this regard?

Cheers

I find people are more likely to write a review if they have a negative experience. What campground is it? Maybe someone here has stayed and can share their experience.

RV Park reviews is usually pretty good. Granted you have to read some with a grain of salt because there are a lot of people who either full time or have another idea of camping and don't like kids or fires and need wifi to and cell reception and need to watch they're tv etc etc etc.
The remarks you state though I would probably think twice.
My 2 cents, but probably worth one.

Yeah RVParkReviews seems pretty reliable, but it's just not that well populated. Many parks don't have any recent reviews, like within the last three years, and most don't have more than a handful of reviews.

I read between the lines when reviewing sites, judging what the persons priorities are, as you say. And I know that a lot of reviewers only post when they are angry. I'm guilty of that. I really should contribute more as I rely on these websites.

The park I cancelled was Kaweah Park Resort up in Three Rivers just outside the Sequoias. You are camped right next to the river in the foothills to the Sierra Nevada. It's beautiful country and the river is amazing. I found this site when we tent camped and the tent sites are literally on the riverbank. The RV sites are set back a bit and packed in like sardines, so not nearly as appealing.

Anyway I cancelled and rebooked at a nice tame gramma and grampa resort closer to us where it will be 25 degrees cooler. Almost twice the price but happy to pay it to keep the riff raff out. Flying Flags in Buellton. Much better reviews and looks great, if a bit sanitized, not at all roughing it. But there's the Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum, Goleta Beach, Firestone Walker Brewery and wine tasting all within fifteen minutes of the park. So now I feel much more comfortable about having a great first weekend away.

Cheers
Adam
