Towing with extra mirrors
« on: August 23, 2017, 12:17:28 PM »
I'm looking for mirrors to extend from the car since I can't see as much with the hybrid as I could with the pup. e-trailer only ha mirrors for the drivers side. Do people only do the drivers side, or do they usually put a mirror on the passenger side also?

Thanks!

When we bought the CIPA Slide on mirrors, they came as a pair. No matter what mirrors you decide on, you will want them for both sides.
It took me 3 sets of mirrors until I found something that I liked. The CIPA did the trick for almost 10 yrs, until we got a new truck. They worked really well for both my husband & me.

Yes. If you go on etrailer, there is also a fit guide, since the mirrors fit on specific brand & yrs of vehicles.

I put a universal CIPA strap on mirror on the drivers side and a little stick on circular mirror on to the passenger side and that worked out really well for me

When we went from the popup to the small 17' TT, it took us three tries to get a set of mirrors that worked well.
First set was one of the ones that has a ratchet strap, with clips over the edge of the widow slot. Ruined the weather stripping, and the right one would not tighten enough to stay in place - on the first trip, I ended up with a wrench and screwdriver in the console, so I could tighten it at every stop - usually all I saw was the road shoulder. I ordered a different style before I reached Ohio (from NM), the CIPA Universal 11950 ones. Better, but difficult for me to secure onto the vehicle mirrors, they use a rubber strap. (I now understand why I've seen them lost on the side of the road.) They still lacked some sight lines.
The ones that have worked best are the JR Products Grand Aero Towing Mirrors 2912; this is our third season with them. They use two clamps for each mirror, and I can secure them better than either of the others -though it's helpful if I use my gardening gloves with the little dots on them (handy for several camping chores). They work on the 4Runner, and on our newer tow vehicle, a Chevy Colorado truck - I get a better view of the trailer with the truck with them, though.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I couldn't find anything specific for my vehicle so I ended up just taking a chance and trusting Amazon reviews. I must say I'm very happy with the mirrors I got. They clip on easily and the strap sort of ratchets on so I don't have to worry about pulling. I can get them on in about 2 minutes and the vibration isn't too bad. I don't have to wear garden gloves to pull them tight, and they don't feel like they're going to fall off. I'm pleased!
