One liners to remember at group rallies
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:55:48 PM »
There are a lot of one liner memorable moments from rallies, to good not to share.  I hope not to upset or offend anyone.

mdbaird76 was telling a story about sitting around his chiminea at home and Happy Campers 101 teen daughter said "you do know it pronounced chimney right?"  We all laughed and said he was from Canada and it was a Chimn Eh!

The park ranger from Four Mile State Park in Niagara Falls came walking up from the road with a very bright flashlight.  When he got to our group campfire, he said "that looked a lot bigger from the road".  Jello Steve replied with "well, thank you".  We all laughed and he left.  We added about 30 more pieces of wood to the fire because it must not have been big enough.

At a rally, CANTgetRIGHT stopped by my site in his power wheelchair while a dozen people were there.  I offered his a cold beer and he replied "no thanks, if I drink that I won't be able to walk".  I looked around and reminded him that he arrived in a wheelchair and we all laughed.  He had a beer.

At another rally following the pot-luck one of the mod's said "How many of you are attending your first rally?"  A bunch of hands went up, I then shouted, "Congratulations, you have clean-up duty!"

There was much laughter.

While discussing the size of the campfire at a "guys Weekend" I attend a few years ago, this came up..  (fire was completely full of burning logs and the stack was about 3ft above the top of the ring)

My DS2  "Wow you guys like a big fire "
Another guy "yep the fire ring is only a guide line"

After a pause, every starts laughing at the face my DS2 made...

Same Rallies as Chiminea, in another conversation moments later and the topic of a turtle being run over was brought up. JoeCamper asked "what happened did it run out in front of you?" that was the topic for at least the next hour, and many of one liners followed.

While camping at Lackawanna State Park in the Poconos a few years ago,  I was on the lake kayaking when my cell phone rings, it's the park ranger and he wants to know if I was JoeCamper?  I was a little nervous so I told him that "it depended what he wanted?"  He said that the local police called and I thought "the beer in the cooler wasn't mine."

They were apparently helping a guy on the side of the road a few miles away who's camper was on fire while in tow.  They asked him if he knew anyone to call and he said "I'm camping with a guy I met on the internet, we know him as JoeCamper but I don't know his real name or phone number."

I asked who it was that had the problem and the ranger said they didn't know and but asked how many people do I hang out in the woods with that I met on the internet?  I figured he wouldn't understand.

We have sense exchanged real names and many phone numbers before group rallies.

Dog-gone, JoeCamper.  How in the SAM HILL did they put all that together and close in on you at all?  That's a wild one right there....

I was at a Halloween rally a few or more years ago.  the kids were carving pumpkins for a contest, and then doing site to site trick or treating afterwards.

one child came up to the site, about 10 years old, and said trick or treat.
and as I looked down, his bucket was an actual pumpkin carved out, and it had a string tied through it as a handle.

I asked him why was he using that, and he replied,
"well, DUH! it is halloween.... heeeeere's your sign, mister!"

what is even better, was he was dressed as 'larry the cable guy'...

Not at a rally, but at a family reunion where we had several family members at the same camp ground. We had lined up several picnic tables and several of us were sitting, talking, laughing and getting a little tipsy from the beer. My aunt was on the other side of the table from me, she reached into her purse and said, "let me get my glasses so I can hear you"  8)
At the same outing, some of the teen kids were hanging around with each other. I'm not sure what the conversation was but I overheard my niece tell my son "George Washington cut down the apple tree, you idiot:P

We were at a rally many years ago and a member walked up to introduce himself, "Hi I'm Rusty."  Another member said "WD40 would help."
