Gateway to the Laurel Mountains, Ohiopyle State Park encompasses over 19,000 acres of rugged national beauty in southwestern Pennsylvania. The focal point of Ohiopyle is the more than 14 miles of the Youghiogheny River George which provides some of the best whitewater boating in the Eastern U.S. Hiking and biking trails, waterfalls, natural waterslides, and a state park natural area round out the gorgeous package.

You could drive into Pittsburgh and tour Heinz Field and ride the Dusquene Cable car.  Each has very small fee.  And quite easy to find.  Also there is now a Casino near Heinz Field.  And frequently in the summer there are Art fests and block party/craft/artisan vendors in parks and sections throughout the city. And great wineries too.  So Pittsburgh has something for everyone.  We stayed at Laurel Hill State Park last year.  It has huge lake to swim in, boat in, etc.  And lots of trails to hike.  No admission fee to those, for people not interested in rafting.

So Pittsburgh has something for everyone

Thingette1s, You are so right. I'm a born and raised Pittsburgher and now living on the other side of the state.  I visit my family there several times a year.  It's a great city and full of great things to do.  🙂

For the bikers and Hikers in the Group:

The Great Allegheny Passage & C&O Canal Towpath create a continuous 325 miles long trail from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. The trail passes right through Ohiopyle and is 79 miles by trail from Pittsburgh.

We are going with Site 6.  I'm planning to whitewater raft but need to talk to everyone else in the family.

We're going to take site #12.

The email Benners sent back said, "As for the Canvas Campers no one has made a reservation for the group."  I'm not quite sure whether they were saying no one had made a reservation FOR the group, or it was a poor way of saying no one IN the group had made a reservation yet.

We've camped at Ohiopyle a couple of times, and it's a beautiful area.

We are having this rally but the campground would not contract a block of sites, only hold them for 3 weeks.  Reservations are first come, first serve.

We are attending. I called Benner's today and left a message for a reservation. They are on winter hours and the office is only open Tues through Thurs.

We want to go. Having trouble reserving a spot. No call backs from the camp ground office so I can make a reservation. Not sure what's going on out there. May just reserve at the state park online.

I was really hoping for this Rally to do well.  But, I would say the Rally here is off unless a few want to get together and still make a go of it. The cg gave us a quick deadline for reserving for the group.  Then they said we could call in individually but people posted they still had problems with reservations.  I am very disappointed with the CG because we have gone there a few times and have nothing but good things to say about it.  I would like to make the rally and changed plans twice to go but now I have to go to a friends wedding that same weekend.

It is to bad because I think this is one of the best areas to camp if you love the outdoors.  There is a little something for everyone and great scenery everywhere.
