Oh, I almost forgot. Across the River is a freight train track. It is busy. You will hear the train at all hours of day and night. Sometimes it does blow the horn. So, if loud noises bother you, you will want a site farther from the river.

Camped here June 2020. Do you to COVID-19 restrictions most of the activities were closed. They have a wristband $20 per person it’s good for seven days and covers I think all of the activities, water tubing on the Juniata River, laser tag, water wars, jumping pillow. Premium sites require a three day reservation. Other sites or day today. Unless it’s a holiday. Each weekend has an activity schedule, but due to Covid restrictions currently nothing going on. Hopefully once in a green phase everything will be open. Golf carts are for rent 50-ish dollars a day. This is kind of nice because it is a large campground. There is a small town road that runs between the two sections of the campground. But they do have a crosswalk. We stayed in sight 87. Our friends stayed in sight 88. It was very easy to spend time together. The map makes it look like some of the sites are kind of small but the office knows the exact length of each site. Our site 87 looked tiny on the map, however it was 50 feet long. The distance between site 87 and the nearest bathhouse looks enormous, but it really isn’t. There’s lots for families and children to do including a fishing pond which is catch and release only. There are two playgrounds the playground closer to the swimming pool is larger. There is a very nice horseshoe area that is fenced in so that there aren’t children running between it. Nice large doggie areas with doggy Pooh Becky collection and trash cans available and there is doggy parks that are fenced so that you can let them off leash. The lower section of the campground along the river is much flatter and more shady. The upper section which is on the same side as the office miniature golf course and swimming pool goes uphill somewhat but not in a horrible way , each site is mostly level on the parking pad. The upper section is not as shady it does have trees but they aren’t quite as large as on the lower side. We had a nice breeze the entire time we were there and it was high 70s and a little humid one day but still very doable in the shade of our awning. The river is great for kayaking and tubing. It takes about an hour to float from the bridge that goes across the Juniata River to Port Royal back down to the campground. During normal times there is a shuttle from the campground to the drop in point. We had two families so there is parking at the drop in area and we simply parked one vehicle there and then the second vehicle we would walk back to our camp site , get the second vehicle and go get the first drop off vehicle. It was him I don’t know mid thigh on an adult at the both drop in points and get out points so you could stand there and play if you want to. There’s a lots of good places to go get food if you really don’t want to cook and they’re not far away within a mile or two. There’s also a Dollar General in case you forgot something. And the store is at the campground is quite well stocked. If you don’t have a wooden sign for your camper there is a nice little old couple that makes custom signs on the spot. They do take cash and credit cards. There’s also for those of you who like wine a little wine station by the pool and they sell wine bottles for wine or wine slushy‘s. And they have lots and lots of hours available. We had a great time and will definitely go back.

Little Mexico Campground

1640 Little Mexico Rd, Winfield, PA 17889

570-374-9742

5 miles off Route 15 between Shamokin Dam and Lewisburg, PA

Along Penn's Creek

Private, Family owned and Run Campground

Basic INFO: 250+ sites. Big out door pool, minigolf, game room, camp store. Activities on weekends. Kayak rentals and livery service. 3 ponds for fishing. Penns Creek is stocked above and below campground. Firewood for sale-good sized bin for $10, delivered to your site. Super responsive management-even after hours. Bathouses with shower and laundry facilities. Some Creekside sites. Playgrounds.

Campground has around 150 seasonal sites, and real nice seasonal campers whose sites are well kept.

Three pavilions, which can be reserved. Group rates available and posted right on web site.

Golf carts for rent, or can bring own.(see web page for rules on that)

The pool is new with new liner and pumps. It is DEP inspected. No lifeguard, as is normal in PA.

OK, here's my thoughts:

This family has owned this campground for the last 6 years. They are in their early 30's. They and their staff have been working their butts off to improve this campground and I think they're doin a bang up job. They've been working hard to replumb and tile the bathrooms, improve the stone roadways, and add sewer and upgraded electric to the sites. They even have cabins available. Basic cable is on most sites and wifi. They do have video surveillance on public areas, to try to protect their facilities, as well as catch trouble makers, if there would be any. This spring has been rough trying to get any grading of sites or roads done with how wet it has been. But Fri eve, there was even a dump truck there delivering driveway stone.

The pavilions are a nice central location with sites all the way around them for a group to reserve. There is even a fireplace in the middle of each pavilion and along the one wall is a counter with outlets for crockpots and such. And the open sides of the pavilions have tarps hung for blocking wind/rain. They roll up to keep em out of the way till you need them.

The only sites I would avoid reserving are 408, 409, 410 and 512,513 IF its been really rainy. These sites will be a big puddle if it rains for days on end, like it has this spring.

The only problem we had was : I did request the owners assistance via his emergency line on Saturday evening (11pm) when we heard banging and voices near our trucks, after we'd gone in for the night. We went out side quickly and saw/heard teenagers walking away. Dad chased them down in the truck and hollered at them to go home. The owner was quick to respond . He helped us look over our trucks to be sure there was no damage. and said he'd check the cameras to see who it was and go talk to their parents. We think they may have been running in and out of the bathouse next door and slamming the doors. (The bath house doors don't slam unless you slam them) He said that he was pretty sure he could guess who it was based on who was there that weekend and our descriptions. He also told us that in the past, if he has had any serious problems with any campers, even his seasonals, he has no qualms with throwing them out, on the spot. He has a list of 150 more people who want seasonal sites at his campground and he can easily fill a vacancy, so he enforces the rules, and most people really like that. His quiet time doesn't start till 11pm, which was close to when this noise occurred. I felt reassured that he was going to take care of it. Those kids wouldn't even look at us on Sunday.

note: I have some pics, and will try to load. But if want em just message me.

This was my first visit to Blue Rocks. My first impression was a good one. Nice Friendly staff at the store when i checked in. The motor head in me liked the garage across the street. It was easy to find my site.

The make or break for any campground in my mind is the bathhouse. The lower bathhouse has been redone recently and is very nicely done in tile. The upper bathhouse is definitely out an dated wood look, but was clean. They were both clean any time i visited them. The hot water was both definitely hot and plentiful. All in all I give them an A.

While we were there they were epoxy coating the floor at Woody's Filling Station, their ice cream, old time drive in food place. Very neat! We didn't get the whole experience as not everything was open, buy I see the potential. The bolder field is amazing to see. You can hear the water running under it! The streams run throughout the camp ground and our bunk was over a small waterfall.

The campground is laid out good for the lay of the land. The seasonal sites are very clean unlike some places we have been to. Plus the seasonal sites do not dominate the campground. This campground is a diamond in the rough and looks like it will only get better with time.

i give this campground a solid "A". And it will be on my "return to" list!
