This idea popped in my head during my commute to work this morning......Where would a Geocacher put a Hide-a-Key for their home?

Many people have a house key hidden somewhere in case a family member gets locked out. Growing up we had an unlocked garage and it was in my Dad's beer fridge in the freezer. I was thinking in a fake bird house or in a porch light fixture. Where do you think it would be?

Someone found the cache this weekend. We'll be camping there in 2 weeks and will review the difficulty.

Happy first day of more sunlight!!

I have not found a cache since the end of January because of this terrible winter weather. Major cabin fever had begun to set in...I needed to get out and find a cache again. I had seen this one publish earlier in the week and since no one had still logged it as of today I decided to head down and see what it was all about.

What an absolutely beautiful day it was today! This is one of my favorite days of the year...when we turn the clocks ahead and start getting more light. To me it is like the unofficial start of spring and the weather definitely cooperated as well. The sun was shining and the temperature was near 50. Felt like a perfect spring day...well minus all the snow.

Arrived at the parking and made the short trek through the snow to the cache. Once I got close to ground zero I was worried that I might have trouble finding the cache with all the snow. That fear was quickly relieved when I turned and saw it staring right at me. Pretty hard to miss that!!

I love gadget caches so I was excited to get started on this one. I inspected everything and had a pretty good idea of what needed to be done. Soon I had the necessary gadget in hand and began the process of getting the lock combination.

One problem though...the gadget provided by the cache did not seem to work quite well enough no matter how many times I tried it. Luckily I also had with me my own similar gadget and was able to use that with much more success.

It still took me awhile to get the combination which was made difficult by the construction of the cache but I persevered and finally got it! It was a great feeling to finally have it in hand and open the cache. Inside there was a blank logbook waiting which I signed as FTF at 2 PM.

In my opinion, I would rate the difficult of this cache higher based upon two things:

1. The gadget provided by the cache does not seem sufficient enough to get the combination. Without me having my own with me, I would not have been able to solve it.
2. Even with the proper gadget, the construction of the cache made it difficult to get the combination.

Overall I enjoyed the experience of solving this cache using the gadget and had a lot of fun with it.

Thanks for the cool cache!

One of the things many of our camping friends enjoy in the outdoors is geocaching.....using GPS coordinates to find items in the woods or other places. These items can be as small as a thimble or the size of an ammo box.

We have launched two geocaches at French Creek State Park in PA. This is the second geocache Between the Naked Trees .

Who will be the first to find it? Will it be a CanvasCamper member? That would be cool. I bet JoeCamper would have a special prize if it were a CC member.

When I camp, I like to be near a LAKE.
Lakes can be home to mosquitoes and other BUGS.
The only thing worse than bugs is RAIN.
If it's raining, you should stay in your TENT.
Your tent will generally keep you dry if it doesn't spring a LEAK.
If your tent leaks, you can cover it with a TARP.
If you stay in your tent under a tarp, about the only thing you can do is READ or take NAPS.
Once the weather is clear, you can go outside and COOK some GRUB over your FIRE made from WOOD.
A good camping breakfast starts with EGGS.
If you cook burgers for supper, you'll need BUNS.
