Is the chain actually slipping, or is the winch unwinding. I ask as their is a "paw" that clicks into the winch gear to keep it from coming down. (That being said, all Ghosen lift systems have safety rails that go in place for a condition where the cable breaks, or this type of case).

When it first happened, we were putting up the roof and it just came crashing down as we were raising it. As soon as it fell, it would no longer lock in the up position and of you are not holding the winch handle, it goes backwards and come down really fast.

We do have the 2 support poles, and have made 2 more for all four sides, but it is really hard to get them in without the roof coming right back down. I have looked atthea Goshen diagrams, but it is not look the same as our crank setup. any idea what the mechanism that keeps the winch from unwinding looks like? I am assuming that is the part that is not working

I am very new to PUP camping, I have a 1994 Rockwood XL with hard walls and when we crank up the roof the chain slips and the roof comes crashing down. It will also not lock as it is being raised so we have made supports for all corners and wedge a wrench from the winch handle to the wall of the camper to keep it in place. I have looked at the Goshen diagram, but my winch look nothing like the diagram. I am nervous using the camper and we have come close to getting hurt while getting the supports in place as the roof will easily crash down on us.

Have tried overcranking as we have had suggested and have tried cranking with the roof locked in the down position but nothing has worked. We have opened the access panel from inside the camper but couldn't find any locking park broken or missing. I have looked all over the I ternet but can't find a diagram that looks like put crank assembly.

Sorry for the long post, just want to put out all the details I can. 🙂

This is what I plan to do.

Put the winterize in the auxiliary water tank. Cut the pump on and go ahead and winterize the in door and outdoor shower. We can use the showers at the place. Use the sink as need and at night after everyone is done brushing and dishes washed i can use auxiliary through the sink and in the morning use water from park to rinse sink pipes back out. The hot water heater will be fine since it will be on of course and I can mix the water in my thetford with winterize too.
