We are looking to add AC to the camper this summer but don't want to put a hole in the roof.  Has anyone used a portable unit?

Are there other options?

I'm a few years behind the times on this, but three years ago I had a portable AC unit.  It was loud and inefficient, and that was the case with all of them at the time.  When it broke I was talking to the facilities guy at my work who told me they don't have a very long life span.  Combine that with the (insanely) loud noise, and the inefficiency, unless I win the lottery or am given one at a huge discount, I won't be purchasing one again.  If you don't mind the setup work go with a rigged window unit.  It's way more cost efficient. If you've got the money to spend and want an easy setup, the portable unit it the way to go.  But keep in mind the hot air needs to vent out of the camper through a duct.

I'm not sure what the post was called,  but somewhere on here one-of-the Thingette's posted a pic of her window air conditioner set up that was great looking! It was a window unit blowing through the screen, held up by those home depot shelves that fit together with PVC, and insulated around with reflectix.

I used one in my popup.  It took the edge off during the day.  At night, it was comfortable.  For me it was no problem to transport it upright in my pickup and I just added an extra hose to get it out a corner of the canvas where I unzipped it.  The moisture isn't a problem when using it as an AC.  It just exhausts it out the hose.  If you use it as a dehumidifier then yes, the water will build up and you need to drain it somewhere.

Even though I had one, I would opt for a traditional window unit.  It is much cheaper, lighter, and takes up less room.  The only reason why I have one of these is because a friend had one and then moved to a place that has AC.  I have been "holding" it for 4 years now.

I saw someone else on another forum that bought an 8,000+ btu window unit at Home Despot, only to return it because it didn't cool the trailer enough.
The roof units are 13,000+ btus. He got a 15,000 btu unit.

There are many portable ac present these days in the market. It is very convenient as we can take it to our summer camps. Moreover, it saves us the trouble of emptying buckets and also has a rotary compressor that is energy efficient for our needs. You should also contact some ac repair and installation tech guys. Visit the following website for more better suggestions.

We have been camping for quite a few years now in all types of weather both hot and cold. During the hottest time of the year we have camped often in MD. where temps are in the high 90's. We use a fan like this one and I can honestly say we have never ever unzipped  all our windows all the way. Just half and open the roof vent and we have been more than comfortable.

Bad seed, I looked on your link and nosed around on "Our Inventory." Had to laugh at the Rival can opener. I got one for a wedding present and one afternoon after a bad storm and a funny sound, I went into the apartment kitchen to make dinner. When I went to use the can opener on the window sill, it was gone and the screen with it. I later learned a small tornado had gone over and that's what sucked the can opener out the 2nd story window! Memories.....
