My 1984 viking model 21 DR had  the original marshall 2 stage regulator, The camper comes equipt with a 3 burner stove and a furnice. The previous owner told me that the regulator needed to be replaced because it was the original. I will never cook inside the camper but I would really like to buy a new replacement regulator and hose from the tank to the propane line on the frame. This way I can test the furnice and know that if I camp in the cold (season opener French creek) and need to use the furnace as a back up to my electric heater it is available as an option. the original 2 stage regulator doesn't look anything like the new ones its square model 260 by the marshall brass company it does have the standard 1/4 and 3/8 inlet/outlet holes it has a 1/4 inch accuflex LP hose # 4201 attached with max psi of 350 rating. Is there a particular 2 stage regulator that I need to buy or will any due I see a lot of them in many diffrent mfg. Can i simply get a basic 2 stage camco regulator for 29.00 on the web. I will also be replacing the hose since its over 25 years old and simply wouldn't trust it. I may ask some of you RV vets at the next rally ( Promise land) to assist me in igniting my furnace and showing me how to operate it if i get the required parts to make it happen by then. I will probably replace the thermostat with a cheap digital one from home depot as well. any input would be greatly appreciated. additional info i see the regulator says on it "to be installed under protective cover or with vent opening vertically down" do i assume i need a vertical vent on new regulator as opposed to horizontal

I had to replace my 2 stage regulator on my last pup.  I went to a real propane dealer, not a hardware store.  As I was talking with the guy and what I needed/wanted to do he helped me a lot.  I was asking for a regulator....not saying 2 stage and as I talked he said I needed the 2 stage regulator that he would have to order ($30 I think) or he happened to have a used one in the back.  He sold it to me for $5  😮  I just bolted it on and it worked great.  I didn't get into replacing the propane lines.  They didn't look bad and they weren't smelling.

I would think a generic 2 stage regulator would do the job.  I don't think you need a specific brand for your pup.

That's a great idea we have a huge propane dealer down the road from me in Ramsey NJ i will take the old regulator and hose over to him tommorrow and see if he carry's or can get me replacement! If not i see a camco RV vertical  two stage regulator on Amazon for about 19.00 then  I can take that over to him for the hose and fittings

From what I can see they are all pretty similar however they do have different BTU ratings.  The more expensive ones seem have higher BTU ratings such as the Marshal with 230,000 BTU.  The only thing I can't quite tell with the cheap Camco is if it also has an empty tank indicator but I imagine it would have to.  You should not need anything like that unless you are running some big appliances all at the same time, like an on demand water heater that pulls a lot of propane.

I'd vote for changing any POL to an ACME connector with pigtail
