I was cleaning around my stove and backsplash the other day and noticed the wooden duct work for the exhaust hood over the stove was all wet and the wood was in poor condition. Uh oh....got a leak. This past weekend it was beautiful out and I decided to tackle the project wearing a T-shirt. As I type this there is about 8-12 inches of snow outside 🙂 I figure I would just take the plastic cover off and reseal it. No biggie.

Well it turns out most of the screw heads were rusted and I couldn't use the screwdriver. I tried drilling them out with care and then after a few oops and realizing this piece of 25 year old plastic was really brittle I looked it up online and it is a $8 part so I got it off faster with a few cracks.

Underneath there was a metal louver thing with 6 screws that came off easy. I then scrapped all the old sealant off and cleaned it up good.

I used Butyl tape on the metal louver thing and put that back on.

Now I have to stop at my local RV place to see if they have the plastic part in stock or order it online and pay for shipping. I'll update this post once I get the part in and install it.
