I have an opportunity to get an A/C unit at a real good price. My friend is going to scrap an old park model camper. He said he would sell me the 2 yr old A/C unit cheap.
I was wondering if I need extra support brackets. I called the Viking dealer and they thought no but, they were not overly confident in their answer.
My pup is a 2000 Viking 1906 st. It has an A/C junction box under the dinette seat.
I would love to put it on but, I don't want to damage my roof. Do you guys know of any way to find out for sure?
Coachmen (Viking relative) told me in any PU '96 or later was A/C ready.
The are receptive to inquiries

Thanks guys, mine does not have any visible bars. I will do the magnet test when I'm able to get it out of the barn where it's hibernating for the winter. I will also email Viking direct. When I called the dealer the guys that were on the phone had to look up to see even if they were a viking dealer.
I have three suggestions from many posts read over the years related to cutting your roof to install A/C.
1. When cutting holes in your roof, round off the corners and don't square cut them. This will give you less stress at that point and a better seal.
2. The standard roof A/C is 14" x 14" (same as a standard roof vent/fan) but you don't need to cut the whole 14" x 14" area out. You can just cut out the area for the duct work only. I have a copy of a template... just need to find it.
3. Measure twice, cut once. ;D
Got the A/C. It's a Coleman. All need is the roof seal and a fabric duct. The local RV dealer has the parts.
It's a 14x14 and the roof vent is already that size. I hope the weather changes soon so I can get the camper out of the garage it's stored in and get it mounted.
Thanks for all the tips and and the offer of template.
After all that, I started on the removal of the factory vent fan. 1/2 hour later I scheduled it to be installed by the local RV dealer. He's only charging me $150 labor and parts (seal and wire). I took the pup over to him today.
That sealant that they used for the fan was some tough stuff. I really didn't want to mess up the paint trying to get it off. I don't think that would have leaked for 100 yrs.
He told me my a/c was about 15 yrs old. Since it was free it was worth putting in. He also said if this didn't work right he sell me a new one
