I've camped at over 100 campgrounds in my many years of camping and I'm always hesitant to give a bad review. This will be my second one ever.
Camp Taylor Campground has a beautiful piece of land when pond, wooded sites, utilities and other amenities but nothing worth putting up with the horrible hospitality of the owners who run the place. They are all about the money and just aren't friendly.
1) They don't accept credit card so require you to use Paypal to make a credit card reservation. Then they add a fee over and above Paypal's fee to make money on it.
2) They overcharged me for my campsite.
3) After checking in and unloading my vehicle, the owner forced me to move down 4 campsites because I was in a tent and not a popup/camper. Even though I paid the same amount of money and that was the site they gave me when making the reservation. "Either move or you can't stay here". They wanted to rent those sites to larger motorhomes and make more money.
4) My reservation included two adults. I let the owners know when I checked in that the second person would be arriving later. They charged my girlfriend an additional $6 per night when she arrived as an extra person on the site.
5) We had CanvasCampers friends come to visit us for the potluck dinner and had to pay $16 to come for 3 hours to visit.
6) If you camp, you probably know of the emerald ash tree-killing insect problem throughout the country. Most all states require you to buy wood in the state you are camping and not bring it across state lines. This campground doesn't not allow firewood from anywhere accept buying from them. Not even .5 mile down the road where you can get more wood for less money.
7) If they think you are using your A/C or an electric heater, you will be charged an additional $6 per day (not per night)
The campground is OK but not worth their hand in your pocket every time you turn around. There are much better places to camp.
When signing in, they read the rules to you and highlight certain sections. Not only does this result in a very long check-in process (commented on by many people) it is just very unhospitable. It did not make me feel welcomed into their campground.
They were also unorganized. I checked in my car, then they came looking for me saying I didn't check in my car.
It is a beautiful campground, too bad it's overshadowed by the rules and staff.
Sorry to hear about the weekend and all the extra costs and rules, Next year you folks can join us usally 3rd week in July, we had an incredible time on the Delaware river in narrowsburg NY at landers campgrounds on Skinner's falls. there is no electric but there is water and new bath houses with hot showers. the water was high and the river was really moving while we rafted. It was a little loud on Friday night but Saturday night was quite and family friendly.
They did take cc's in the gift shop so they should have taken them for reservations. They also charged for showers. I was taught the kids (extra charge for over 2 people per site) how to shower in the rv with little water.
I had a great time with greatfriends but rules rules rules and littlen charges made the campground unfriendly.
My 5yo son said on the way home he had a great time and wanted to go back. I asked him why, what was his favorite part was? He said the digging toys at the playground. I think we can and will find another campground with digging toys to keep him happy.
