In case you haven't figured it out, someone put the idea in my head that some County Parks allow camping and this has led me on a quest to find these County Campgrounds. If you know of any, please add a topic on the campground. I have never known to look into a county park and this seems like a hidden gem to me. Yes, they may not have some of the cool things that State Parks have....Like electricity or a bathouse, but I'll still camp here and if you are a tenter, this may not even phase you.
So come on, tell us your favorite county park near you that allows camping. I have found 3 so far.
Central County Park, Lancaster County, PA

I'm in Lebanon County, and no, there are no county parks that allow camping.
There is a park in the city of Lebanon, Stoevers Dam Park, http://www.lebanonpa.org/Pages.....rRent.aspx that has some camp sites at $12/night w/electric and $2/night w/o electric.

Mauch Chunk Lake is a county park in Carbon county. Specifically it is right outside of the town of Jim Thorpe and is 20 minutes frOm my home. they have cabins, tent sites and a few sites which are suitable for pups. It is dry camping. Sites are all wooded and none have pads. Some you may have to work to get level. There is a small mandmade lake for fishing and boating (electric motors only I believe), as well as, a small sandy beach for swimming. When you make reservations be certain to tell them you need a site suitable for a pup. Any other questions, Please ask.

Turkey Swamp Park is part of Monmouth County, NJ park system in Freehold. Haven't been there, but heard it is a pretty good campground. Planning on getting there one of theses days.

This is great!! I am finding out about campgrounds that I never knew existed and may visit someday....hopefully soon 😛 I never thought to look at county parks.
Online these County parks seem to be similar to the State Parks in that they have large land, lake, and woods. I know of the one State Park that is near me and have been looking for an alternative. Of course there are private parks but they are a different caliber, offering more comforts but usually not as much land and maybe no lake for more money. Not that a private campground doesn't have its place in camping, but I have been yearning for a close woodsy experience alternative to French Creek SP.....which is a great campground, I just like to see different places.

You might want to check out this websight. It lists quite a few public campgrounds across the country. It also has some local or city campgrounds that can be hard to locate.
In Northern NJ (Morris County) we have a county park that has electric and non-electric sites. The base rate is $18 for in-county, not sure of the out-of-county rates. This is a really nice park (we mountain bike here each week), and not to far (1-1.5 hr) from New York City for those of you that may be interested in taking in a show.
Here's more information: Mahlon Dickenson County Park
I found another one in Blair County PA...Morrison's Cove Memorial Park
Mtn Bikers....I missed your post on Morris County park. I will have to check that out since I was raised in Northern NJ.
