I stumbled across the Hibernia County Park Campground in Chester County PA.

It is $15 per night and you don't get much, but this is only 10 minutes from my new house.  I can shoot over there on a whim if I want.  You can only camp Friday and Saturday night (Sunday nights as well for a holiday) from May - October.  There are no hook ups and only a pit toilet, but did I mention it was only $15 per night?

I took a ride up there today to check it out.  For $15 you basically get a sign post in the woods that says site 23.....but did I mention it is only $15 per night  :camperkid: .  You won't be seeing any big Class A's here.  The dirt road going in is sometimes a tight squeeze between the trees and even with just a pup some jockeying will need to be done to get it backed in.

I would really like to try this in the spring.  Has anyone ever camped here before?  I saw one review online and they said there was basically nobody else was camping.  To me, this will be considered boondocking.  No electric, no fancy bathouse, dirt road, camping IN the woods with not many people around.

I can't wait to camp here....anyone want to join me?

There were picnic tables and fire rings but the tables showed their age.  I wish I had brought my video camera.  I will go back eventually and take some photos and video.  I would like to see it when some people are camping.  When there is not a paved place for the camper or obvious place where campers park I have difficulty visualizing the  sites.  These were all leaf covered.  There was also tons of deadfall trees.  I also have a feeling that since they don't camp all week long that you can get a good fire going from wood on the ground.

Matt, did you visit both loops? The Fiddlers section is a bit more developed, shall we say. It has a road going through it with backin sites lined up in a row off to the side. A dump station is available for those trailers needing it.
The Lake area camping is pretty much pull in or back in however you want & set up near your site marker. The road around the loop was a bit rugged in places the last time we were there.

I did go through both loops.  Like I said everything was covered in leaves so I could not get a clear picture of the sites.  It did seem like I lost the road at one point in the lake section but again, everything was covered in leaves and it just seemed like random tables here and there.

Did you go there with your pup or the Hybrid?  Were there many other people camping?  Would you be interested in going there sometime in May?  I know you have kids in college and sports.  I'm pretty flexible and I think Joe is as well.

My boys have tented there with scouts. I have not camped (tent, popup, or hybrid) there since my DH is not interested in "first come first served" campgrounds. That being said, at Hibernia I don't think it's an issue. Whenever I visit the park, (I'm about 15 mins away)  I always walk through the camping area. I've never seen it packed (except for Fiddlers wknd). Usually just a few tenters. Doug (bummer72) took his popup last yr up to the Lake area loop & had the place to themselves.

At 15 minutes away you can always stop by and join us around the campfire.  Yes, I am not big on a First Come First Served campgrounds either.....except I feel that many campers thesedays want electric and water or at the very least a bathouse (not a pit toilet  :'( ).  I don't think it will be like Yellowstone where campers line up overnight to get a spot.
