we NEVER camp on holidays. we went against our better judgement only one time.
we had just gotten our new hybrid and decided to camp over the Thanksgiving weekend. BIG MISTAKE! we had no idea it was such a popular time to camp.
luckily, living in California, we can camp year-round and we avoid summer and holiday camping. we go spring, fall and some winter, instead.
We camp every holiday weekend, weather permitting. Having the extra night makes dealing with a few more people worth it. Also it's easier to camp with friends because everyone has a three day weekend that weekend. Just to add, we've had some marginal experiences without the "crowds of the holiday", so you don't need a holiday to have a bad neighbor.
We camp Memorial Day Weekend, we would the fourth as well but my son's troop goes to summer camp that weekend.
We also do a Halloween weekend at the same state park every year. It may be crowded but we all have great time. Campsite decorating, trick or treating, games and a pot luck soup.
I wish we could do Labor Day but, the kids are showing their 4H animals at the Fair.
Just like TMMull, the 3rd day is worth the crowds
