I'm big on National Forest C/G's ~
Most generally they are associated and right next to with some kind of water ... river, stream, lake, sea shore. ... you know, the fishing thing. And that, of course, is my main purpose of being there, along with the great outdoor camping atmosphere.
But I've found NFS C/G's to be less expensive ... AND ... larger and more private campsites. True, they usually do not have some of the amenities of other campgrounds, but I'll settle for less to get more. Most often they do not have electrical or water hook ups, a few do but they are the exception and not the rule. Also, there is not the overseeing regulators that you'll find quite often in the National Park C/G's - so long as you abide by a few common sense rules all will be usually smooth.
Here's link to National Forest C/G's that someone here might not have.
