I would like to go to Hickory Run State Park with my family this Father's Day. I see there are two separate campground sections. I have heard that one is wooded while the other is more of an open field. Looking at the map, I don't see where I can determine which is which. I will be taking my dog with me, so I am looking to stay in the pet section. For any of you that have been there, can you tell me which section is wooded (that would be my preference)? Also, I saw some sites are paved. Are the other electric sites compacted rock, or just dirt? The rest of my family will be staying in tents, so we're looking for adjoining electric and non-electric sites. Do any of you have recommendations on specific sites that you really liked? Thanks in advance.
Jason
Hi Jason,
Hickory Run campground has two different main areas. One in the woods and one not. The map here should explain better.
Last year, we camped at sites 258 and 259. Great sites, deep in the woods, not pet sites.
This year, we are staying in the 200-220 area. We've never stayed in this loop, the sites look good but the road in the loop in small with many trees and tight corners. If you can wait a few weeks, I'll give you an update? Hope this helped.

Camp the woods vs the hills. The non pet sections towards the rear of the wooded section are great. Access to the playground, fishing by the dam, and close to the bathroom w/sinks for shopping.
The field sites are not my idea of ideal camping sites. The main thoroughfare road runs right along that field as well.
We will be there with Joe in a few weeks. Current conditions are snowpack 😮
