Yak,
Promised Land is a very nice state park. There are four campgrounds and multiple loops in some of them.
Lower Lake Campground - Beechwood, Northwoods and Rhododendron Loops
The Pines Campground
Pickerel Point Campground
Deerfield Campground
Beechwood has even rows of camping, not large sites and mostly grass between sites. (we had a guys weekend here last year)
Northwood is ok but not level... at all. We have a group rally here about 5 years ago and some had to dig out the ground to lower the tongue of the camper. Many of the trees were topped off from a storm years earlier.
Rhododendron is nice but not accessible to the water like the map shows. There have been 2 sites in this loop blocked off for the bald eagles nests in the trees above them. Shower house is new, about 5 years old.
Pickerel Point is on a peninsula. It was closed for several years for renovations and reopened late 2012. Leveled sites, paved road, water, electric, sewer, removed outhouses and built 3 of the niced bathhouses I've ever seen. One main road into a loop and back out. All the sites on the main road are very nice, at the road are mostly full hookup and the water edge sites are walk-in tent sites lower. You can see photos from our last rally there in April. FYI - it might be breezy on the peninsula.
Deerfield Campground is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. It's rustic but has flush toilets and pay showers. I've never stayed here.
That may be true if you are going here at the end of the season. If in doubt, call the park office. We were at a different state park during reg season and campground host said that online in the off season only some of the sites will appear as available, but truly all sites at that park are avail, just that there may not be an open shower in that loop, or water to the spigots in that loop either. So call the park office and ask.
