Well, it looks like the federal government shutdown has impacted recreation.gov. Does that mean the campgrounds are closed too?

Yes, all federal parks and recreation facilities are shut down since there is no money left to pay anyone in this budget category. There are some budget categories that are still up and running and spending money.
The timing is not good for the folks who want to get in some fall camping unless they book sites at state, county, and private CGs, of which there are many.
Perhaps the government can save money and then reopen at a later date. No matter what party line anyone leans toward, another way to look at this government shut down is they are less likely to cause us citizens any mischief for a while. ;D JMHO.
