I stayed with my daughter at a campground just north of Hershey PA one weekend in September and she bought a few girlfriends with us knowing that the campground had the full weekend of activities listed on their website and there would be plenty to do.
When we arrived and checked in, the campground had canceled all activities for the weekend because the Hershey RV show was going on that weekend. We weren't going to the RV show but were planning to be involved in the local stuff. The campground didn't have a pool and they weren't offering the inter-tubing on the creek as shown on their website.
To top it all off, the owner didn't want to miss the nascar race on TV and refused to come out and talk to me until a threatened to go around and knock on his residence front door. FYI - we floated the creek and the kids also rented go-cart bikes. We won't be returning.
Don't you think the CG should notify customers of changes outside what is advertised or normally offered at a campground?

We have a group rally at a PA state park near the Poconos and there was a water main break at the campground. It was fixed when we arrived but the water needed to be tested before it was turned back on and that wasn't happening until after the weekend. They provided a portal potty at the campground loop and we could drive 3 miles to the ranger station to share the one shower.
I spoke to the campground two days before the trip adn they said nothing about the issue.
Don't you think the CG should emailed or called everyone booked?

We have a rally this weekend in Gettysburg and the campground and owners are great, they are very accommodating. Adams county fire marshall has issues a bans on campfires and that is a large part of the camping experience. It would be nice to know without needing to call them or be very disappointed once arriving.
Not having water is a big deal for a lot of people, and canceling advertised activities without notifying is a big deal too. That's just bad business! At the very least they should have given you a discount on your stay.
Although I don't think it's Gettysburg Campground's responsibility to call everyone about the fire ban that IS on currently (after all, that's a county thing) it would be nice for them to call you, the rally organizer, to let us know. After all, we can't cancel, they've already got most of our money because of their deposit policy.
With the fire ban currently in place I'm working on changing my menu around for this weekend since almost everything I was planning to eat was either in a pie iron or a foil packet.
I do hope that you posted reviews of those campgrounds on here and on Google!

You may not have to change your menu. We camped in Lums Pond, DE this past weekend. The burn ban is in affect, but they allowed charcoal for cooking fires. Good thing since we planned on cooking every meal in the Dutch oven.

Thanks fritz, but, lol, I'd have to learn how to cook with charcoal then... Never used it myself.
It's not too hard, just remember to let the lighter fluid soak in for a bit before you try to light it (learned that the hard way LOL), and it's the same as wood coals. Have a great time!
I do think that resort style campgrounds should contact folks with reservations when there is a change in the expected activities, and/or conditions. If I wanted to be responsible for entertaining myself and my group, then I would pay a fraction of the price and boondock.
I think at the very least they should post it on their website. I am going to French Creek SP in PA this weekend and they do not have a notice about a burn ban, but there is one. I don't like that. They have an advisory section and they were able to put something up during the forest fire last week, but they don't mention anything about the fire ban. As a matter of fact, I think they should put something up about the fire now being contained and not a factor for the campground at this time.
Maybe a mass email notification. I can understand that calling each and every reservation could be a PIA, but some places do call prior to arrival to confirm dates and upsell chicken BBQ's or other stuff going on.

Pennsylvania State Parks, and, I imagine, all others that use the same reservation system, have the capability to contact everyone with reservations at a specific time.
There was an E coli outbreak last summer at Cowans Gap SP that sickened some people who were there over a certain weekend. We had camped there that weekend and had reservations for an upcoming weekend as well. We were notified by email of the outbreak (even though it was several weeks before they put everything together) and told who to contact if anyone had been sick or if there were questions. A separate email told us that we could reschedule or transfer our reservations at no charge since the lake was off limits.
So, they can do it ... if they feel so moved!

I never touch lighter fluid. I can always taste it on the food. I use a charcoal chimney and a couple sheets of news print.
Since I don't ever recall a ban, I've never looked for a page, but came across the PA Parks advisories page. A shame I have troubles keeping track of which county I'm in.
