We are trying to plan a camping trip in NC for late March or early-mid April 2012.  But we know nothing about the area and need your help....This is our requirements, need a CG with full hook ups, pet friendly (our two camping dogs always go with us), near the mountains, but not IN the mountains, and close to the scenic parkway...also the site must be on the water i.e.,  a lake, a river, or a pond..etc...and sites not too close together...We are thinking about some place close to Asheville, NC...Any suggestions?

Thank You for your time,
Wolfie

It's not in NC, but the only campground I know of remotely close to there is Caney Creek RV Resort, west of Knoxville, so I wasn't going to say anything since it didn't meet your criteria of being in western NC.  It seems to meet the remainder, though.  I remember reading some good reviews of the place which is why it has a green marker on my map.  I haven't personally been there, though.

The only other ones I'm aware of are in eastern NC.  Zoom out to see the full map, or copy the link below and paste it into a new window.

Sorry Wolfcat.  I lived/camped in Eastern NC.

I did tent camp at Hanging Rock SP with some folks from another website before I got my Roamer.  You might want to check out the NC State Park site.  You can search by area and facilities.

A few years ago we stayed at Cascade Lake which is adjacent to Dupont State Forest in Brevard, NC. It was a nice little campground made all the better because it was in the Passport America system - we paid $15 for a full hook, which is 50% off  🙂
