We had dinner with friends last evening and were talking about planning this summers vacations and they told us about a problem they had at one of the state parks. They stopped at a Michigan state park on the way home just to extend the trip a few days and after getting set up, they had to go out to get some things. When they got back to the park they were told that they needed to pay the day pass to get in. After arguing with the park ranger they finally paid it, but were not impressed. Has this ever happened to anyone else or have you heard about it in different places?
we went to Yellowstone back in '09. we had the DW's Grandma with us for the stay. so she insisted on using her Golden Pass discount, since we had paid for the campsites, for the entry fees.
well, she ended up not feeling good a day early, so relatives said they would meet us in West Yellowstone to pick her up, so we could finish our stay.
when we tried to re-enter, the ranger wanted to charge us the entry fee again, even though we had our campsite window sticker for Grant. we explained that Grandma probably had the receipt in her purse but she was gone. the ranger said, sorry but no receipt, can't go back in without paying.
we showed her our reservations and the window sticker but she refused to bend.
These gate nazis are pretty wicked. We are dragging in high priced trailers, paying their salaries, and boosting the economy in the surrounding towns. Heck even as hunter we take so much insult from everyone. We actually pay for the lands, the rangers salaries, and give billions to towns, companies, and lodging.
That is just ridiculous. I paid for the camp site, that is my entrance fee. If they didn't mention that the campsite fee did not include the entrance fee, then that to me is a hidden fee and they can't do that.
I can understand if they didn't have a window sticker but come on.....Just reading this is pissing me off. I would raise hell at the gate, ask for a supervisor and if they still didn't budge there would be letters going to the state or gov't. That is just wrong, soooo wrong. Hotels have been busted for hidden fee's in the past. I used to work for Wyndham and they would charge a $3 per night energy fee and they got sued over it because it was a hidden fee. BTW, wyndham lost the lawsuit!!!!
