I have a 2008 fleetwood bayside pup. went to install the battery and there is a yellow wire with a ring connector coming from the break away brake switch. the other wire (blue) goes to the tow vehicle. does the yellow wire go to the positve or negative side of the battery?

Its goes to the positive side of the battery. The switch is grounded to the frame. When the cable is pulled power is applied to the brakes.

The brakes get their power from the brake controller in the vehicle.

The trailer battery is there to power the brakes if the trailer and vehicle become disconnected while towing. The pin gets pulled and the trailer battery supplies power to the brakes. A safety feature you hope to never need.

If you pull the trailer with a vehicle that does not have a brake controller, the brakes don't work.
