Went on our 1st trip out this season. Had The Coleman all ready to go. Did some mods over the winter. Added bearing buddies, removed the propane tank, installed a front storage box and spare carrier. Also painted the front of the trailer and undercoated some of the underside metal framing.
The pup has a old radio shack am/fm tape deck radio in it that I think the previous owner installed. It works off a switch right by the door, which also controls a light located under the step. Well we are all set up, camp fire is going I flip the switch to listen to a little music and all I get it is a terrible buzzing sound! I play with the radio, try a tape and still buzzing. Checked wiring behind the radio, all looks good. Break out my trusty Fluke meter, and low and behold there is about 17 to 19 volts DC going to the radio!
Being a Master auto tech for over 20 years, I believe that is way to high! 15 volts DC should be maximum. I had 124 volts AC at both my outlets and at the power source on site, so I don't think that was the problem.
Can't seem to find a exact replacement, so can anyone recommend a decent one? I am only using it to run one inside light, the radio, one outside light, and a 12 volt DC socket. The 110 only runs the 2 inside outlets, and will be adding a outside outlet.
Also if someone is parting out a old Coleman, I am willing to purchase your old converter! 😉
