Earlier today while returning home from our last trip of the year I was backing my pup into the driveway when my wife who was directing me yelled that smoke was coming from under the hood, got out to see was what going on and by the time I got out flames were coming from under the hood, I yelled at my brother in law who was in the passenger side to get out. My 10yr old who was in the house heard the commotion and my wife yell for the phone, was responsible enough and dialed 911 and handed the phone to my wife. By the time the fire department arrived ( very quick response ) the vehicle was burned pretty bad looks like a total loss, plus my cell phone, Gps, and wallet were all burned ( major pia with the wallet ) also lost my television for the pup which was in the back seat. Thank goodness no one was hurt, my children, wife, and dog had come home earlier in the day. Looks like no damage to the pup other than some soot stains on the front, which I already cleaned off. Jeep is a 2008 so I'm hoping the insurance co will pay it off and it looks like I will be shopping for a new tow vehicle ( I hate car shopping). Oh well thanks for letting me vent.

Wow!  I'm really glad you got out safely.  And fortunately you were in a position to do so.

Any idea on the cause??

Wow  🙁

Glad that you are all ok as things could have been much worse as far as injuries and also when it happened (i.e. before the first trip of the season rather than at the end of the last).

Still stinks though - I hope that you find something within your budget that you like as much as your Jeep.  Glad your PUP was ok; even though your TV will be different next season, you will still have your "home sweet home (away-from-home)" to return to.

Hang in there and best of luck with the vehicle shopping!

Glad no one was hurt and the camper survived.  At least it didn't happen out on the road, especially while highway driving.

everything worked out ok jeep was a total loss and I was able to get a new tow vehicle a 2011 Dodge Dakota crew cab will make a great tow vehicle. It has been a very trying week ( had to take off two days of work ) but in the end it all worked out and the best thing is no one was hurt cars and possessions can be replaced people can't. Thanks everyone for all the nice comments.

Awhile back I wittnessed a motor home fire just alonside the road to town. The guy suddenly pulled over to the side of the road, everybody got out and flames were coming from under the hood. Before the fire department got there (maybe 15 minutes), that motor home was really ablaze! Could not get over how fast the fire spread.

Good to hear your family is safe and unharmed. Everything else is replaceable and next year this will be just a memory.
