The average state park site is around $30, private campgrounds are closer to $40. $50 is about my max for a camping resort and like 01YZF6 said, when there is a spa, heated pool and live bands... is it still camping? ???
$60-$80 for the weekend is much cheaper then a hotel room. Hotels also don't like it when you start fires.
As I've seen it has been posted here before, "camping" is what you make of it and get out of it. I think $50 a night is about what we spend. Mainly because of the type of camping we do. I would much rather go to a destination and pay a campground rather than stay at a hotel. That being said I am working on DW and DD1 and DD2 with exploring what the state parks have to offer.
I think $45 for a water/electric site would be my max. We started camping, because we bought season tix to 6Flags NE, and it was cheaper, nicer, and added to the vacation feel by staying in the cabins at nearby Sodom Mountain CG. DD loved it, made a friend, and we got hooked. We're planning on using our trailer for the first time this year ;D.
I think I've paid as much as $80/night once. That was at Disney, during one of the peak seasons, though. It was still considerably cheaper than their cheapest hotel, gave us more features than a hotel room, and still keeps you on property so you get the perks (extra hours at the parks, no need to pay for parking even if you drive to a park, events at the campground, etc..).
That's an extreme case, though. Usually we pay around $20-$45/night, depending on amenities, public/private and time of year.
