I made a Google map that serves that purpose. I also use it as a locator of places I hear about, both good and bad.
If you want to try it use Google, just go to http://maps.google.com, sign in and go to "my maps". I posted mine below, but you may need to be logged in to Google to see it.

I downloaded and have used a computer campground log now since last fall. I too started a spread sheet to contain information about various campgrounds, but found it too limiting. I found http://www.theultimatecampgroundlog.com
You can download and use the program before giving a donation to the author. There are many features to this program, but you can just start using the basics until you get familiar with the program.
I have started to use it to put information on campgrounds that I have YET to visit. I can then use my laptop on route to find campgrounds that looked good when doing an internet search at home. I have then edited the campground entry when I am either at the campground or when I get home while details are still fresh in my mind.
I really like this program and I see there has just been a new version in March of 2011 introduced.
