This past weekend was a camping nightmare.  I invited my step-daughter, her husband and their baby to go camping with us for 3 days holiday weekend.  Also my  18 year old son, a friend of his and her 11 year old niece.  The plan was for the baby and his mom and dad to sleep in a big tent that we brought along and setup.  My wife and I would take the king bed in the camper, the son would take the dinette and his friend and niece would have the other bed.  After setting up the camper, the step-daughter decided to speak for everyone and say that they ALL were going to sleep in the camper since it was "too hot".  We had brought along fans and as the evening wore on, it cooled down considerably but she insisted on everyone sleeping in the camper.  They slept the woman in the bed, the two men on the dinette, the playpen in the middle of the floor and the other on the other bed.  It ended up being so chilly that night that we all needed sleeping bags.  It was so packed there was not room to move.  They put the baby to bed at 7pm so no one could go in the camper past that time.  That was only the beginning of problems with no one helping with cooking the meals or cleaning up.  Has anyone every gone through something like this when camping with others or am I blowing things out of proportion?  We camp to get away from everything not bring it.

Sorry that you didn't get the relaxation that normally comes with camping for a weekend...I don't think I would have handled that situation very well when someone who doesn't own the camper started to dictate where everyone was sleeping...

Here's my general motto which seems to apply in this case: "No good deed goes unpunished."

I think I would have moved myself to the tent and enjoyed the trip in spite of them.

I probably wouldn't have invited 2 sets of extended family members.
