Have you ever slide the awning poles or sheppard's poles in and out, twisting them around looking for the stupid button?  Here is a tip to help you find them easier.

1) Slide the pole to the shortest hole.
2) Mark a line on the top with a permanent marker so you know pull it out at least this far.

3) Next, remove the outer sleeve completely.

4) Draw a line from the button straight to the first mark.

5) Now, you will have a mark for where to start and can see the marks in each hole to know where to line it up.

This will work with sheppard's poles, awning poles and awning legs.

Hey Joe, great simple idea.  I don't have buttons on any of my camper poles but i do have a cargo bar for my truck that i fight with every time i pull it out.

Thanks

I had a similar idea in my head but I drew dots where the empty holes were, didn't work out perfect.  I see your line idea will work much better.

My awning poles give me grief the same way!!! I wrapped masking tape around the top of the poles and used a sharpie and drew an arrow pointing down on the sides where the pins are. Now all I have to do is line the bottom pole with the holes with the arrow up top and I'm good to go.

P.S. I had to use the masking tape as my poles are black. I have the awning off an E3 coleman. Picked it up brand new at McClains RV for 50 bucks last year. Apparently people by pop ups and either don't want the dirty awning and request a new one or just don't want one at all and about every 5 years or so the have a huge sale on them and I just got lucky as mine had just pulled away from the plastic strip that slides into the track. I have since fixed the old one and now have a back up, but that is another thread on how I fixed it!!!
