Hi New Members, Here are some answers to frequently asked questions.
The website membership and group camping rallies are free. The only thing we do is split the cost of a gathering site and firewood for the March and November trips. Large groups and colder weather. $15-$20 per family/site.
We camp typically one weekend a month from March to November, often a week long over the summer. We have been to Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, Williamsburg, the Poconos, and many other places. Many people come early or stay late. To find next year’s trips, https://canvascampers.com/group-rallies/
If you have suggestions for campgrounds, let me know.
If you click the link to one of the group rallies, it ‘should’ take you to a page with all the details. Date, Location, Who’s coming, etc… and if they mention what they are bringing for the potluck. https://canvascampers.com/gr-22nov/ . If a link is wrong or broken, let me know.
I’m JoeCamper and my wife is Ewwwbugs. Noone usually publicly posts their names. Many people will introduce themselves by saying, “I’m Chris, campdifferent on the website and this is my wife Jen. We also ‘try’ to provide a handout with names, website names and site numbers to help meet everyone.
Potlucks are always on Saturday evenings, 6 pm. Except in November, it’s 5 pm because it’s dark at 6 pm. We always have a group campfire during/ after the potluck. Most everyone says what they are bringing, we sometimes have a theme. Thanksgiving, Picnic, Italian, Chili cookout, dutch oven, etc. but you can bring anything. If there are 15 or 50 people, still only bring enough for 4-6 max, not everyone.
Blocked sites. It depends on the rally. Most of the time no, we plan a group rally a year in advance and tell everyone to book. With these crazy times and campgrounds filling up, we often plan a trip, tell everyone that they can book May 12th and we go 9 months later. There are some campgrounds like Knoebles where I hold a block of sites for you to call the campground and book them. I’ve also booked and paid for 20 sites and everyone pays me, like Raystown Lake. I try not to.
Website name… so the name implies tents, popup campers and hybrids which is where many started. We rarely have tent campers, maybe a dozen times in the last 10 years. Most people started out in popups or hybrids and naturally upgraded over time. After 3 popup campers in 25 years, we are now in a 39′ toy hauler. Times have changed. The majority of our members are in a motorhome, 5th wheel, or travel trailer. We do have a great core group enjoying their popups and hybrids.
Activities… often members will post, is anyone bringing bikes? We plan to visit a winery Saturday if anyone is interested. We plan to kayak over the weekend. Geocaching, hiking, playing cards, and more. Others join them. The only activities that we normally plan are the potluck and the campfire. That being said, there is a campfire every night at someone’s site.
After attending a few group rallies, we can always use help coordinating one of them. Answering questions, updating the list, etc.
That’s a lot of information, if I missed anything, let me know. I hope it helps. JoeCamper
