Just did 6 days/5 nights in Cunningham Falls State Park, at Thurmont, MD.
Check out is 1:00 PM, and check in is 3:00 PM. And they mean it!
That two-hour interim is used to check and CLEAN each campsite that had been occupied.
They pick up the odd bits of whatever, but they sweep each site and THEY CLEAN OUT EACH FIRE RING. They raise the ring, shovel out logs and ashes, and rake the area smooth. When you move in, the site looks brand new.
I believe they only hire camp hosts with OCD!
It's a great park, and almost equidistant from Gettysburg, Antietam, and Harpers Ferry (for the Civil War buffs out there).
We have found the same true for most Georgia and all Florida state parks. The CG volunteers show up as soon as a camper checks out and clean up the site to the last scrap of paper or bottle cap left on the ground. The only exception we recently found, to our benefit with unburned fire pit logs, was Fort Yargo in Georgia.
