Bob and I cut our weekend camping trip short today due to the incredible number of flies at our site. We were at Trap Pond State Park in Laurel DE (an okay park, BTW, but we've been in better places). When we got there on Friday, the flies weren't bad; maybe one or two. On Saturday they started congregating, to the point where we couldn't leave our food unattended for a second lest it have five flies landing on it. But last night was the last straw. We sleep in our van, and last night it was quite warm with little breeze, so we kept the doors open. All night we were swatting the flies away and got very little sleep. This morning we didn't bother making breakfast, but broke camp at 7am and headed home.
So how do you all deal with flies? Is it just "one of those things" that comes with warm weather camping? This was the first time we'd been camping in warmer weather, so we don't know. Any suggestions on ways to keep the little buggers out? Preferably that don't involve erecting screen houses and spraying chemicals?
