Well, I would have to put my foot down and say absolutely not!!! There is no way I am moving somewhere with an HOA that will not allow my camper to set in the drive. I would ask , where does it stop? Next they will be telling me that I cant watch TV on the back porch after dusk, no playing football in the yard, no Christmas lights, garbage can has to be taken back to the garage 12 min. after the garbage truck runs!!! Then when I dear wife got home I would politely ask her if we could discuss this first.
Some HOA's can be brutal. Others not so much. Depends on the rules and if someone in the development is a PIA. My MIL's townhouse development has a septic truck, boats, motorcycles, PODS, anything parked in the lot.
Personally, I would never ever live with an HOA. Not just for the camper, but because you can't paint your front door a certain color, no Christmas lights, no more than 2 cars per house, pick up your leaves, mow your lawn, can't leave a wheelbarrow in the backyard, what type of fence are you putting up, they are just in your business and that is not my style. For some it is great. My mother loves her 55+ development that takes care of all outside stuff. She gladly pays the HOA fee. If my Dad were alive he would go nuts living there.
No matter how great the house is, read the bylaws and figure out if your lifestyle fits with a HOA.

I've lived in a HOA enforced neighborhood for 15 years and it has a good point and many bad points. The good being that if the rules are enforced, the neighborhood typically won't get blighted and houses will maintain their values for the most part provided the economy doesn't go bust. Now on the other side, you have to pay dues and they get to tell you how to care for your house. You need to get their approval on what color you can paint your house with, the type and color of shingles, type of landscaping and approval for any outside buildings (sheds). They will send you letters saying your garbage can was "seen" from the street on non-garbage pickup day (just got one yesterday), or your flowerbed needs weeding or yard needs cutting, all kinds of stuff. I have maybe gotten 15 letters or so since I have lived here and I typically ignore them and get around to whatever whenever. I've put in a built in pool, painted my house and re-shingled the house without their implicit approval with no ill results as I was compliant with the convenent. The Home Owners Association meetings are pretty funny, a bunch of busy buddies concerned citizens complaining about something to the so called powerful Board of Directors, Elementary School politics at its best. No campers can be parked in the driveway unless loading or unloading, no serious mechanical work can be performed on cars in front, no parking in the yard. We had our pop out in front for ten days when we had no power from Hurricane Ike, otherwise it was kept in storage for $ 45/month. We did that for five years and finally sold it and got a smaller one to fit in the garage. Now we are looking at HTTs and maybe looking at keeping it covered for $150/month. If it was me, all over again, I'd stay away from the HOA's. The only reason I'm still here is that my house is getting close to being paid off and I don't want to sign off and give 6% of my house to a real estate agent, plus I hate moving. Good luck with your decision...
