During the camping season I always tried to have the camper ready to go on very short notice. Keep a back pack with a couple of changes, toiletries and those clothes always favor fishing. Always keep a long weekend (four days) of rations aboard; i.e. canned goods, dry powdered milk, even MRI's. About the only thing I'll need to take (or stop off and buy enroute) is needed fresh food items and water, if that is not provided at campsite.
We keep most everything in the camper during the camping season. We pack food and clothes in the TV, we are out the door. We even wash towels and bedding that go right back in the camper for the next trip.
We pull all the bedding, towels, pillows, food, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, etc and storage them in totes on a shelf in the garage for the winter,
During the camping season, everything stays in the PUP, so that all I have to do is pack my clothes, food and hitch up and go.
Winter, I remove the items that might freeze/burst, and make sure all linens are in sealed totes so mice don't have a field day eating/nesting. I stick a can of Damp Rid in the bathroom area.
This year I did put pots/pans in plastic trashbags to reduce the spring cleaning (dust).
But, I still haven't closed my PUP - opened it after my October trip to clean the outside and have camped it in all winter.
We keep nearly everything in the camper during downtime except clothes, food, items needing washing or repair, and stuff that is used at home as well (i.e, bikes, scooters, games, dog stuff). During the winter, I usually bring the bedding into the house as well.
We're also a little limited in our cargo weight since we only have about 450lbs to play with after you subtract the A/C, propane tanks and group 31 battery from the cargo weight. Most of the other stuff lives in nesting/stacking crates that we can quickly throw in the truck when we're packing to go somewhere.
We have had mice in the house, and I even had one living in a small cavity in my motorcycle, but never in the popup so far. I do make sure to clean it as best I can after each trip, and I've sealed up every hole, nook and cranny that they might be able to use as an entrance.
We keep all of the needed extras, bedding, stove, tables, cookware, etc in the PUP all the time. Have a tote in the garage with the spices, foil and such. Then we just pack the food, clothes for the trip & go.
The ants & bugs are more of a problem than the mice. Although with a number of vacant properties around the rats are becoming a real problem. None in the PUP yet but a number of times in the garage & shed. Real damage from them! Destroyed my chest waders and ate holes in the gas tank of my mower & weed-whacker.
