[font=georgia]As many of you know, I've been camping for... pretty much ever.  My parent's camped in an Apache pop-up with my older brothers and sisters over 45 years ago, even before I was born.  Anyway, I camp about 12-15 times each year and my camping chairs last about 4-5 years - I'm due for new ones again.  There are things that I've learned over the years about the good and bad of chairs. (this is just my opinion)[/font]

[font=georgia]You might think that all chairs are the same but here are a few things to consider:[/font]

1) Mesh backs to the chair have a tendency to allow a draft at night while sitting around the campfire.  I've seen several people cover the chairs with blankets

2) Cross bar at the bottom of the chairs can sometimes make it hard to sit level around the campfire.  The camper areas are often level but the campfire around has rocks, roots and other stuff to stop you from sitting flat.  4 individual legs often works better.
[smg id=2627]
3) Many cheap chairs have support bars that press on your legs. Nicer chairs (like #6 picture) are curved to make cross bar to avoid pressing on your legs and having them go to sleep when sitting for longer times.
[smg id=2639]
4) Cup holders in the arms of a chair are very convenient.
[smg id=2636]
5) Side trays on a chair are always a nice bonus if they have them.
[smg id=2635]
6) High back chairs can always be relaxing for a nap by the fire.
[smg id=2637]
7) Absorbent fabric can be a problem if your chair sit out at night.  A wick-away fabric will dry out much faster.

8 ) Zero gravity chairs are very comfortable chairs and are great for relaxing or reading but work better around the camper then the campfire.  I find that you often have to sit further back from the fire and your shoes are melting while your head is cold.
[smg id=2634]
9) Size and weight are always something to take into consideration since you need to haul it around.  This big wooden chair might be comfortable but tough to haul.
[smg id=2632]
10) Comfort and back support are important... sit in it and try it. Think about weight limit and width if you are a larger guy like me.

Vik-king, those are my favorite chairs. I have found that I need different chairs for different purposes. When I get back to camp after an all day hike, nothing beats the REI zero gravity loungers. For all around chair, the chair vik-king linked to has been my favorite. They are great for making s'more by the camp fire with a nice table on the side for hot coco. I also use them for fishing on the creek bank. Very comfortable, light and durable..

That foldable aluminum chair from Harbor Freight is "my" chair and a real favorite, especially the tray on the side! Additionally, we bring along two zero gravity chairs. They are very comfortable, mostly for relaxing/napping, but are a tad too heavy to be toting around from campground when we are rallying.

We have several like in pic 4 . It's time for us to replace them also as they are getting old and worn out. I have a couple coleman max chairs that I really like but I can't seem to find them now  🙁 I hope they weren't discontinued.

Harbor Freight was hit with a big demand for their aluminum frame sports chair and just got a shipment into our local store. Picked up a matching one for "my" chair at $27.88 plus tax. The collapsable side table is great and the pockets on the other side useful.

They also told me this is the last shipment for the year, so if you want one, better go to Harbor Freight.  😉
