I'm having a problem understanding the mindset of people who regard one-way streets in campgrounds as an affront to their camping pleasure. Is it really too much trouble to drive around the loop in the proper direction, just to keep people -- ESPECIALLY the kids -- safe?
And, don't use the rationalization, "By taking the shortcut, I'm actually driving a shorter distance, so it's safer." It's safer if we all -- ESPECIALLY the kids -- only have to look one way for vehicles, instead of having to look out for crazies going every which way, without regard to others.
Please drive safely in camp, and obey the rules.
I believe one way streets in campgrounds are so you are lined up better to back into the spot which is usually at an angle. Plus the road is tight so if you run into someone traveling the opposite way someone has to yield and pull to the side. As far as it being safer to drive only one way, the speed limit is usually 15 in the campground. I don't get pissed at people driving the wrong way. I will get pissed at people flying on the roads, even if they are going in the correct direction.

One state park that we've visited had a single "loop"....... a long road with sites angled off of either side and a small tear-drop at the end to turn around. I think the actual "loop" only had two sites on it; the rest were on either side of the long lead-in. Sites were angled off to the right of the road no matter which direction you were traveling. The lead-in road wasn't double wide, so I have to wonder what happens when two duallys pulling 5's meet.......
I agree with Lone Lock; the direction is more important for orientation to the back-in sites than anything. Even the pull-thrus have a direction when you consider the hookup location.
It's all good people. Let's just follow the rules so everyone can have a good camping experience. If someone else decides not to follow the rules, don't let it get to you and ruin your trip. Camping is fun; I won't let anyone ruin it for me. 🙂
