Camping is our getaway. We have both a great popup and a seasonal site in the mountains of PA. In the late summer we go up to the mountains most weekends - its get away time, and use the popup in the spring and fall.
We have done it both ways in that we have had years where we didn't camp and took a full week or two for a vacation, but once it was over the wait for another year felt like it would take forever. Since we switched to lots of camping, what we do instead is take the 10 days of the 2 weeks vacation and turn it into 10 - 3 day weekends spaced through season. Combined with a few normal 3 day holiday weekends, and we get mini vacations most of the year around.

We camp many extended weekends throughout the year and tried something different this year with a week at the beach and no camper. An earthquake hit Tuesday, we were evacuated on Thursday, a hurricane hit on Friday and tornadoes on Saturday of that week. Is someone trying to tell me something?
I would like to plan a short cruise next year if we have the money but I'm afraid of a tsunami. 😮
For the past 3 years our vacations have been camping anywhere from 10 days to 25 days in a row. This year we combined a lot of long weekends camping with a trip to Utah mountain biking. We didn't have enough time off of work to drive (and take the camper), so this time we're flying and renting a house with 5 of our biking buddies.
We typically camp for weekends or long weekends. Our extended vacation is usually a week at the beach (been doing this for the past 9 years). Having said that, I would LOVE to take an extended camping trip to see more of this beautiful country of ours. My wife thinks it is a great idea, but we're waiting until our son is a little older.

Camping is our main way to get away from home and enjoy some hiking, biking, kayaking, etc. The past three years though we've moved twice: from Alaska to Eastern Massachusetts and then finally settling in Western Massachusetts. With new jobs (twice) and packing/unpacking and all the things that come with a NTU house this is the first summer we had time to get out again. Got the NTU pup (and NTU dog :dog: ) and now we're out having some fun again. Hopefully next year we'll get at least one good long trip in. We're thinking about Nova Scotia. We both shift work. I get my schedule for a year at a time. My DW only gets her's monthly so it makes it a little harder to plan trips, at least as far as making reservations go. We make it work though...
Since we bought our pup in 2009 all of our vacations have been with it. Last year was 3 weeks out to Yellowstone and back and this year was a week out to Lancaster / Gettysburg.
We are talking about our plans for next year and I think we are going to pup less vacation. We are talking about a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale with air fare being $72 round trip. How can you beat that? The other idea is to rent a house in OBX. We have done this a few times in the past.
