Just picked up a sportsman blanket from amazon, I have to return it, i didn't realize it would be so small (6x6) - I thought they were all standard sizes. also, it seems rather flimsy, it says it's by 'space brand' - is this the right type of item? so flimsy? if you could direct me to a better buy, that would be great! thanks!

If you are looking for the most inexpensive heat saving device for your buck I would recomend putting reflectix in the windows.

HERE is a video of my reflectix.  I never had gizmos on the roof.  The reflectix and foam board under the mattress kept me warm.  I would have gotten gizmos eventually had I kept my popup but $50 of reflectix did much more to retain heat in my popup than real or fake gizmos.

If you want to make your own PUGs then this is what you need to buy: http://store.colemans.com/cart.....p-727.html

If you buy off Amazon or Ebay make sure they are American made and not "Asian".  Difference is in thickness and quality.

every blanket that's similar to the type PUGs, that i've seen, are a generic 5x7 size. they are available from REI, Bass Pro, Cabelas and various other online retailers.
most made by Grabber or MPI and go by various names: All-weather, sportsmen, emergency survival, etc.

here's some at Amazon:

Thanks everyone, I'm going to return the ones i inadvertently bought via amazon...they are hooded and small.

any concern about reflectix oxidizing d/t condensation or rain?

last night of camping was this past friday night for us...i shorted the electric heater last night, sadly, so we had to drive home no pugs/reflectix/pink insulation board yet, and at 34 degrees, i couldn't see staying there, especially with a 3 yo in tow. so, going to do some of these mods for next year!

is it ok to keep pink insulation board on the bunk ends year-round? is it uncomfortably warm in the summer?

Sorry you had some bad luck, JeanJeanie. Better luck next trip out.

As for the pink insulation board, we use our year-round not only for the 1) insulation from heat/cold, 2) noise baffle, but 3) it keeps our air mattress from slipping all over the bed tray. (We have a tray in our TrailManor that serves as the base of the bed.)

So sorry, I thought you were going to go back to Cabellas/bass pro where you mentioned you saw them before.  Here's the exact ones I bought that are the same fabric as the PUGS
(gotta love the amazon purchase history)

I picked some up from walmart once too, but it looks like they may not be available now.  I do suggest measuring your bunkend (tops) to make sure the 5x7 size will work well for you.
The pink insulation is worth it from what I hear.  I haven't heard of anyone taking it out.

This is just my opinion but I have learned over the years that you get what you pay for.  A set of two standard PUGS are about $80 and they go on sale every Black Friday for a few hours.

The Space All Weather Blanket on Amazon are very nice but $70 for one and they aren't the right size.

The Emergency/Casualty Blanket on Coleman are $20 and you will need at least 3 of them for two standard bunks.  Not sure that the thinner material and trouble cutting, sewing and modifying them is worth the $20 savings.  They also won't include the elastic cords to hold them on and clamps.

Ditto, here.  Just about the right size for queen bunk.  Use it for the sun.  Don't mind the cold.  Purchased ours 10 years ago from Cabelas ($10:  1/2 off sale!), and they still are like new.  I would agree the quality ones are worth it.
