I saw the below posting on craigslist while I was looking at used TTs for my hunting property and I was wondering how many people they get to do this? Is it something you would do?
I don't think it's something I would get in to; we take to many last minute local trips to commit to something like this. From reading the CL posting it seems almost worry free. What do you think?
Let your RV / Camper Generate Income When You Are Not Using It!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------We are a growing camp gear rental company with a network of owned and non-owned campers. We provide our customers more than just a rental unit. We provide them with a service to make camping easy and cost effective. We have a wide variety of campers, gear trailers and other camping related items available and we are looking to expand this. We are incorporated in the State of New York, have over 35 years of camping experience and have been in business since 2004. We have a very good reputation and although we actively market our business, we receive much of our business through repeat customers and referrals.
All customer service is handled by us, as well as delivery and set up, cleaning and response to any problems or breakdowns, should they occur. We have units available only for delivery by our trained personnel or for trailering by the customer. This is totally up to our client owners. All of our drivers are experienced campers and drivers. Units rented through us are covered by rental insurance and we obtain security deposits from our renters. We have other protection and procedures in place to protect our customers, clients and ourselves.
Renting your camper or RV through us does not prevent it from being used by yourself. You simply tell us when you would like to make it available for rentals and we find customers to fill those periods. Rent it once a year or all season long, you decide. If you think that you might be interested please contact us and we will arrange to meet to go over your camper, determine rental fees and go over the details of how this works.
Before I moved from NC I considered seriously doing something along those lines. I would buy, repair (or have repaired) units and then offer for rent with the stipulation I tow, set up, take down and return the unit.
I know it's done, but I don't know to what extent it is. I wouldn't have gone with more than 5 units from the start.
I often see CL ads offering campers for rent, but those look like private owners who don't get to use their unit too much or just want to generate some extra income.
There was a business nearby that rented PUPs, TTs and motorhomes. They were in business quite a while and had a large inventory but went out of business last fall. The same guy also owns a trailer (utility and construction) sales dealership that seems to be growing, so he might have just decided to concentrate on his core. He seemed to have most of his units out on summer and fall weekends. Of course, a lot of his motorhome business was tailgaters on Penn State football weekends.
Last week I saw a wrecker towing a rental motorhome into the state police barracks. That evening on the news I saw that police had stopped the RV doing 80mph on I-81 and smelled marijuana when they approached. A search turned up a lot of drugs. That RV is going to be impounded until the renters go to trial. Something else to think about ... 🙁
If I were to do it -- and it wouldn't be with the camper we use -- I think I'd want to handle it all myself rather than have someone else involved, and taking a percentage.
