I make a point to hook up, pull out of the spot and then walk the whole spot one last time before I leave. You never know what gets kicked under the trailer.
At least that is my strategy. Sooner or later I will leave something behind.
In the Boy Scouts 2 kids hopped in my pickup for a ride home after an Order of the Arrow weekend. I told the kids to throw their packs in the truck. We leave and are about 45 minutes away when I look in the bed and only see 2 packs. At least one of them was mine. :crazydance:

I got very lucky at the beginning of this years camping season. I was in a hurry after work on Friday to get packed and on the road for the first outing. I had to lift the roof up for something and put it back down. The kids got off the school bus and off we went. We get to the CG about 50 miles away and I go to get the crank to put the stabilizers down. (I always put it in the back of the truck so I can grab it quickly at the cg) Its not there. Thats when one of the boys calls me to the back of the camper to look at something. Its the crank and it is still sticking in the slot to crank the roof up and down. I could not believe it made it the whole way there.
OH, yes.......DS #2 left his bag behind on the picnic table as we left before 6am in December 2009. We were four hours down the road when he realized it wasn't in the truck, and waited til we got home to check inside the camper. Inside his bag was his wallet (with more than $120), his camera, his cell phone, and some other stuff. I know, I know....he's not the usual teen continually texting and stuff.....
We called the campsite and they said someone had turned in the bag, but they could not tell us what was in the bag as it was safely inside the manager's safe and they mailed it to us. EVERYTHING was there.
It was a KOA in Virginia, btw, off I-81. Wytheville KOA....had a family fun center. And with the winter weather, it was a nice stop before heading home to southern Maryland. What great people we met that work there.
