Thinking about upgrading

We currently have a 2008 SeaPine that we love. We bought it new figuring as experienced tenters, but Popup novices we would need the comfort of dealer support and warranty.

We are now ending our 2nd season soon, and we are seriously thinking about an upgrade to a bigger pup instead of adding on the the one we have. We definely want to stay pup, its our style.

We are thinking towards the end of a High Wall for the larger refrigerator, 3 burner stove, oven and more usable cabinets (since you really can't store much in a flip over). We don't need extra people space, it will always just be the 2 of us. Toilet and slideout for dinette is another goal.

I have believe we can get at least $6500 or more for our existing trailer and by the time February rolls around I will have about $6000 available (Bonus stuff).

I would love to get something like a Fleetwood Niagra, or something along the highwall line. I am going to talk to my dealer in the next few weeks, but they have moved away from Coleman since they can't get units as fast as they can sell them and now sell primarily Forest River Flagstaff and Rockwood.

I'm not sure if the prices are as great at the RV shows as many say but the Allentown, PA show has a good number of popups.  About 25 or 30 there last year.  I have attended 3 or 4 other shows and they have little to no popups, just big rigs.  Hershey RV show (the largest in the country) had about 4,000 units and only about 6 popups.  Coleman had NONE, very disappointing.

It might a good time of the year to make a deal since its the slow season and sales are down?  Your local dealer may also match their prices.

Phil - Stone's isn't selling Colemans anymore?

I would definately head for the Allentown RV show in January. Joe and I bought our first pu there - a Fleetwood SantaFe and felt we got a good deal from Harold's RV in Bath, PA. We really like this dealership, and will be bringing our Utah there on the way home from the Pine Grove Furace trip in November.

They are still a dealer and repair center, but they sell more popups than Coleman can supply them. They sold 40 popups last month, Coleman has only been able to get them 10-15 units a quarter and none of them in the high end (Avalon/Niagra).

They are selling the hell out of Forest River Flagstaff for the high end, and Rockwood fo the low end.

I have really started to ramp up the seriousness of upgrading and my first choice is a Fleetwood Niagara (I am looking to for 14ft box and Highwall), but no one has them available.

We have had a pretty good day camper shopping, we visited 3  dealers then went to our dealer last. As much as I would love to get a Fleetwood Niagara, its financially just not feasible. One trailer that has caught our eyes is a High Wall Flagstaff (not Rockwood) HW27KS. Its a 14 foot box highwall, single axle. The feature that has us reall interested is this outside pullout kitchen (Sink and Stove).

Just waiting to see the numbers. Our dealer has already made a good offer to trade in our existing trailer, so we may be able to do this with just our tax refund.

Here is the floor plan:

But this is really what has made us look seriously - the slide out kitchen:

Phil,

That is a neat idea for the outside sink and stove.
However, I would be concerned with a countertop that isn't a one piece corian style counter.
Coleman learned not to put presswood on the outside of the pup. My 99 Niagara had a presswood counter top and I never exposed it to the rain, but the dampness penetrated it and it failed after about 3 to 4 years.
Also, is the cabinet presswood underneath? That is at the edge of your awning and it's going to get wet, no matter what you do.
Hopefully they are not, but I can't tell from the pic.

Since I haven't actually seen this model yet, I can't answer the questions.

There are 2 dealers in my area that both said they intend to get one of these over the winter and both have my number.

Phil,

Looking at those pics again made me realize that you will certainly be warm when you run the inside heater and are using the sink.
I've never seen a pup with the elec hookup on the street side, if that is what the hatch is for.

Well if its that cold that I need the heater on, I can assure you I will be doing the dished in the double sink inside.

This is all speculation right now as I can't find anyone  within 200 miles that has one to see.

Phil,
I see that Media Camping Center has the FLAGSTAFF HW27SC  but not the KS with the slide out sink, must be a nice feature that doesn't stay on the lot very long.

I have way too much time on my hands.... but

I have determined that the Flagstaff HW27KS and the Rockwood HW277 are almost identical. Made lots of calls and it seems that although the external kitchen is popuular, becuase they have to relocate the door farther to the right, you don't get a storage trunk on that model, so there is less storage than the same HW without the external Kitchen - hence many dealers don't stock the unit.

That being said, the external kitchen is so much more important to us, that even without the storage box, there is still 2-3 time more storage than we have now.

I am acutally working on a deal right now with my dealer to take my camper right after I get back from the Thanksgiving ralley. This way I don't have to pay for storage or winterizing, then they would have the new unit ready for us in March 1. That gives me Tax season and 3 months of time to come up with the balance - Depending on the final numbers.

Crossing my fingers it can happen.

The deed is done!  :dans2:

Our beloved 2008 Fleetwood Seapine has been traded in - and on March 5, we will be bringing home our new 2011 Flagstaff HW27KS with outdoor kitchen.

Man, that was pretty quick.  Congrats!  Do you still have your camper for the last rally?

Man, that was pretty quick.  Congrats!  Do you still have your camper for the last rally?

Its gone this weekend. In the rally thread over at Pup, I announced I wouldn't be there and offered my site as a communal one. Steve responded there was already one paid for, so I just got a refund of the site.

Part of the deal is I don't have to winterize this unit, just clean it out, and there are no storage fees. We have negotiated a consignment arrangement with an agreed upon amount if they haven't sold it by the time we pay for and pickup the new unit. They are aimiig to sell it for a much higher amount and we have agreed that we would get 90% of whatever over and above the amount they sell it for.

They also agreed that if by the time we get to pickup stage, if we don't have the entire balance (This is based on us getting a good tax return, they will in-house finance the difference - which should only be a few thousand). So this  is a win-win and a huge upgrade for us.

We were able to make this work as we don't need all the freebies they give to new popup purchasers (Roadside service, memberships in campgrounds, credit in the camp store, etc)
