Title pretty much says it.  I read a thread recently where someone mentioned turtling and I got the general idea, but I wonder if there's a pure definition of what turtling is. :turtle:

Camping in a hybrid trailer without the bunks folded out.  :turtle:

Most hybrids have both a sofa and table that can be used for sleeping so if its bad weather or you are just doing an overnight, turtling is a great option.  You can also turtle while still connected to the tow vehicle.

Did a two trips last year where it was just me. I slept on the dinette. A little work to set it up and break it down but less than dropping the bunks.

Does anyone have a pic of an active turtling camping trip?

We turtle every New Years trip & also when crashing out for a few hrs while traveling in the summer. Often times, we kind of 1/2 turtle. We only deploy one bunkend for DH & myself, (front or back depending on what the site is like) while the boys stay in the bunkbeds. If we turtle in a campground, we put out the slide & DH & I sleep together on the jackknife sofa (Yes, we fit). If we are turtling for a quick overnight in a parking lot, we stay hitched, keep the slide in, & DH takes the sofa in the upright position & I use the dinette. Since our hybrid has 2 bunkbeds in addition to the front & back queen ends, the boys always have a bed ready for them. When we fully open up, one of them will move to the back bunkend & then the emtpy bunkbed becomes a great storage area.

asTMMull said, it's simply staying in a hybrid, without the canvas bunk ends out.

it's a feature unique to hybrids. can't do it with a popup.
it's one of the advantages of a hybrid.
you can have two canvas bed ends that don't take up floorspace, like a popup. but when traveling or bad weather, you can sleep on the dinette or sofa, like you would in a smaller TT.

also, a hybrid can have 3 such beds, while popups only have two.
so, you have the potential of sleeping 10 people inside with a 3 bed hybrid. no other non-custom RV has that kind of sleeping capacity.
