Camping is a break from everyday living. Getting to spend time with the family with all luxurys of home. One of the things I love about camping is watching the boys play. They are far more active while camping than at home. After the first night of a camping trip I know that they will be going to bed early every other night because they are so active during the day.
My favorite part of camping is having DS's and DH all to myself. DS's are very involved with school activities, instruments, computers, academics. I'm glad they are productive activities (rather than them wanting to be out randomly running the streets) but it's nice to have them schedule downtime that cannot be interrupted (though if they receive a phone call from someone who needs help (i.e. computer, homework, or teen relationship distress), I allow them to see it through because I feel it's important to help others). DH and I are kept busy maintaining his mother's (and my parents') houses. Yes, we do usually make a few cell phone calls each day while camping to make sure all is well with them, but it seems that the only thing that deters the parents' demands to do things immediately (such as rake their lawn or help them choose a color of bathroom paint) is a distance of 100+ miles. Please don't misunderstand; we camp within a couple hours of home just so we can respond to whatever emergencies our parents might have and are glad we can help them out as we feel it's our moral obligation. It's just that sometimes our particular parents translate 'impatience' into 'emergency'.
My favorite part of camping is the closeness you have with the natural elements.....last night, I walked out on my front porch and it was lightly misting and then suddenly a flash of lightning and then thunder behind it spooked me.....I stood there listening to the rain for a few minutes and realized how far removed we are inside out houses with the TV going,etc.....I like that when you are camping you KNOW when it is raining and when it is getting dark outside and I guess what I am trying to say is how closely in tune you become with the natural evolution of day to night and all the sounds and smells that go with them.....SCmomma
My favorite part is the enjoyment my daughter gets just being a carefree child. She runs, swims, and plays all day with no computer or TV. She can get dirty and I don't worry (much). Just seeing her excitement makes all the cleaning, cooking, and packing worth while. I love bathing her in a big plastic tub on the cabin porch and the quiet time toasting marshmallows around the campfire. Enjoying the company of, and a beer or two with, good friends and family. So I guess all of it is my favorite LOL ;D
My favorite part of camping is the evening around the campfire having a few drinks,(the only time we drink) friends to have laughs and conversation with. DW and I both work very long, hard hours, and camping is really our only time to unwind and relax. When not working and at home there are always jobs that need done around the house, so getting away is a must for us from time to time. I have come to REALLY enjoy the rallys/get togethers, probably my favorite kind of camping.
My favorite part is how the stress of everyday living just leaves the body as soon as we leave the driveway. I truly enjoy the time with my wife and kids without all the interruptions. It is just a great way for me to reboot myself.
My favorite quote is:
"Sometimes it takes looking through the haze of campfire smoke to see the world clearly" Baden Powell
Sitting around the campfire with my adult children and grandchildren telling and listening to stories, jokes, riddles, and
whatever. You get to know them a lot better without tv and video games around.Having the morning fire going with my coffee as they come out one by one and get warm before breakfast.Just being in the woods, day, and night, enjoying it.
